When I scratch my dog on the back, he shakes his leg. Why does he do that and is it normal? Thanks!
Do you think it's normal?

its known as a somatic reflex arc. this is the same reason that your leg jerks up when you tap yourself just above the knee.

I didn't know that. Thanks for explaining it.

I'm sure he will, but isn't that what a female dog is for?

Thanks for your input. It's always good to be careful at night no matter who's walking around. A friend of mine was kicked in the ribs by a group of skinheads with a dog so you can never be too careful.

Thanks for your response, but it's not a dumb question.
no its not a dumb questoin. You were curious and wanted to know. And btw thhe dog does this beacuse the dog thinks he is actully scratching himself, funny huh?
Yes its very normal just about every dog does that. Im not sure why perhaps its a scratching impulse. Other than that its just a sign your dog enjoys being scratched.
It is totally normal. lol
Even the SHEEP at my farm tends to shake one of their legs if i scratch them on the back.
dogs kick their legs when you are tickling them. They enjoy it about as much as you do, its fun for a split second then it becomes painful. Avoid his tickle spots and scratch him in other places.
haha ya everyone knows thats normal duh

I didn't think it was painful. I'll avoid the tickle spots from now on.
No that is certainly not normal!! that means your dog only has a week to live!!!
yes it is normal, i used to scratch my next door dog just to simple watch him shake his leg. it entertains me :)
If some one Scartch your back when it's itchy how would u feel. Common Sense.
I was expecting the dog to jump and do something dramatic.

Sounds like the dog is a dog.
haha my dog does that to she not fixed and shes a girl
its only because they are horny lmao !
Looks like your dog would like some action.
its normal. every dog has a spot on their back that triggers a reaction. like when humans get their reflex tested at the doctors and the doctor hits under your knee and your leg kicks. its a spot that causes a reaction.

dont worry, your dogs fine.
my dog does that too
Nothing strange. 100% Normal.
