I'm about 5'4" (so quite short), a woman, 22 years of age & I weigh about 85kg. My frame is large, I have a C cup breast, large hips and a round tummy - basically an 'apple' shaped figure.

I wouldn't call myself "fat" at all, or even "chubby" but BIG, if you know what I mean. Big skeletal frame, bit of excess fat on my upper arms and belly, but that's it really. Though for my height, I'm not happy with my BMI, and my BMI tells me I'm Obese.... which makes me think of couch potatoes and really fat Americans.

I eat a healthy diet consisting of mainly Fruit & Vegies, bread & rice, some sweets occasionally (chocolate is my only weakness) and the only meat I eat is chicken and fish occasionally. I take a vitamin every day, and work out about 4 times a week now. But I'm still a size 16 dress, and BMI that's obese.

It gets me down a lot, particularly since the "ideal" attractive woman is petite and thin. I'm a bit short and stocky/curved. I'm in a great relationship but I still worry I'm not attractive.

Is It Normal?

According to the BMI I'm considered overweight although my body fat percentage is 12%. to track your progress use a mirror not a scale.
Oh, and it would be easier if you posted a pic so you can get a more specified answers.

how do you work out your body fat percentage?

What do you mean by "work out body fat percentage"?
If you meant by it "measuring your body fat" use calipers or you can go to a sport center and do an Underwater weighing.

I don't think any woman is sure if they are a bit fat or a bit chubby anymore...... I wonder why ( we all know why ) ........ I would just try to be comfortable and happy in your own skin and try to be mindful about your eating habits. On one hand you don't want to be considered "heavy" on the other hand, who the fuck cares what judgmental-type people think - so long as you feel good fuck em :)

People often think you need to be thin to be fit, but that isn't true. From your post, you do sound like you lead a fit and healthy lifestyle (which is the main thing).

As for the way you look, I don't think the "ideal" is petite and thin. Different people like different things. I'd guess more men like curves than not.

Kudos for thinking your not fat- says a lot for your self esteem. I'm a lot taller 5-10 and 75kg and I think I'm huge.. So you really put it into perspective for me.

Get WiiFit. It'll tell you your BMI and whether you're overweight or underweight. The last time I did it, it said I was underweight....

Just considering the bare facts you're carrying about 20 kgs of excess weight which could put a considerable strain on your body. Since you already watch your diet and do regular exercise, it's hard to understand why you're still overweight. The only thing I can suggest is keeping a food (and drink) diary. Sometimes we consume extra calories that we're not aware of in the form of sugar in juices or other drinks for example.

Great idea, and I do keep a little food journal though I don't pay as much attention to it as I should. To put things into perspective, all of my family on my mother's side is pretty morbidly obese, but they make poor lifestyle choices. It's definitely genetic..

187.392923 pounds at 5'4 is at least chubby, not that chubby is bad.

According to BMI, i'm underweight to the point of danger. However I work out 7 days a week, drink two protein shakes a day, and eat four large meals a day. BMI is a healthy guideline to stick close to, but every single human body is different, and will be sized and shaped accordingly. Don't get down on yourself I bet your beautiful!

FYI 98.6 degrees is the average body temp (dunno what that is in C) Anyways my body temp runs right at 97.1, all the time. Everybody is different, don't stress yourself.

Take no notice .. ! I have been told that the bmi index & weight index standard of today is far from correct but , more so "modified" to include the average for the immigrant populations including mainly asians etc , so on that note .. i wouldn't panic too much or take the bmi standards of today -

on board too seriously , it's sad that we are led to believe this crap because of the standard weight index for immigrants especially the asians wtf ! I generally live by the rule - if i feel healthy .. Then no need to worry .. Also .. Everything in moderation , it's only logic !

And yes .. I have been told this by nonetheless by 5 health professionals & 3 doctors .. Also by a community health nurse who done my grandsons regular weigh-ins .

Being big can have its advantages. You can save on clothes by wearing trash bags. Just make a neck hole.
