Stargirl here we go again, I know for a fact drugs are bad for you, there have been studys done, and drinking is also bad for you, taking pain medication is bad for you, eating greasy food it bad for you. Just because you smoke pot doesnt mean its ok and it doesnt mean it should be legal, if you want to talk about pot we can, I believe the only reason its not legal to some extent is because the government cannot tax it just like moon shine. But I also detest it, i think its the steping stone to more heavy drugs that can ruin and destroy people and I believe this because of how the poeple I grew up smoked and are now in a world of shit. Besides, Iīve smoked at least a spliff a day for 6 years or so, and my world is not shit. You may find biology books about drugs usefull too, cause it sounds like you donīt know that tobacco and alcohol are phisically addictive, Cannabis is not, just psicologically, look it up.

Alcohol and weed are often compared - for obvious reasons. Both are more or less natural products, can take the mind to a place that you just cannot go to otherwise. Both cause can the user to waste considerable amounts of time. Both leave the user smelling (reeking ?) somewhat different afterward. Both have been around for thousands of years.

Why then, is it the more harmful of the two that has been the more available and socially acceptable throughout history ?

Perhaps it is simply due to ... tastes and fashions. Can a quick toke after a day at work compare to an eminently marketable tug on a 'refreshing' pint ? Can you throw a mini umbrella on a Camberwell Carrot and call it a Hawaian Hash surprise ? Despite the revelation of quotations of marijuana in the Bible, did Jesus choose to turn the water into wine or a nice fat kilo of pure Lebanese ? Do you think a thought passed through his mind at the last supper to pull out a quick skinny and say, 'toke on this and try your best to remember me?' Christianity has marketed alcohol as acceptable way before the modern world governments allowed it.

As for getting drunk, wasted, smashed or stoned. If you want to and can, you can do it in so many ways legally or illegally. If you want to f*ck yourself up, there are a shedload of ways to do it.

On the Guiness book of records show, a guy ate a bicycle. That's got to f*ck you up. No one said that was illegal (plenty said it was stupid).

But regardless, drug abuse runs rampant. Cheap, low quality drugs and the vast quantities of time, effort and money spent on them abound. On the other hand, alcoholism has never been higher. But the corporate giants make sure that the drinks are well made and nicely packaged, at least ...

Chris, your problem is with the people, not the drugs. That is the general reasoning behind any prohibition. That people cannot be trusted to make choices for themselves, so one is made for them.

It is not the drug that is bad, but the use or misuse of it. It is not the sword that is terrifying, but the wielding of it. If you feel that all drugs are bad, nothing can change that, but if you think that you can argue your point on your own, I'd say you're struggling.

I'm not a pot head, as you might say, but I can see that, although I'm skeptical about this holy herb thing, your arguments are less convincing than Stargirl's.

Legality, addiction, jail, government, hard drugs, sugar, etc. can be brought into the 'is weed really bad' discussion, but the apparent facts are that marijuana is very close to being legalized in many places and already has been legalized to a varying extent in others, including the UK, which has no mickey mouse bunch of 'dope heads' running the show there.

This could not happen if it were indeed in the same class physically as regular hard favorites.

Socially, legalization would take care of most of the dark and dangerous elements that surrounds it. To categorically state all drugs are bad needs reasoning out, which you have done to some extent. But it doesn't hold. It seems more emotional to me.

I agree with you mostly, but I donīt on the "Taste and fashions" argument. Alcohol and Tabacco were made legal because the Government became less powerfull than the mafia that distributed illegal Alcohol and Tabacco in the USA, and all over the world.
Alcohol and Tabacco are both way more addictive than Weed, plus, the abstinence syndrome for both drugs is very sucky. The point of this, is that users could resonably let go of the weed, but not Tabacco and Alcohol, people pay anything to satisfy their vices.
Government legalized Tabacco and Alcohol, weed wasnīt that lucky because it was not addictive enough to be legalized.

All you have to do to weed is dry it and smoke it. You don't have to break it down, process it, or mess with it in any way. God is not an idiot, by any means, and he KNEW what effects marijuana would have on the human brain and body. I smoked marijuana for ten years and I never had any problems with it. More recently I have had problems with alcohol. The main reason marijuana is dangerous is because it is illegal. It is illegal because most of the voters dislike the kind of people who enjoy using it.

The entire Christian religion is made up but I love the buds too.

I want to go against you there but at the same time I can't really, I mean yeah I think the religions were made up, religion has had some positive and possibly more negative effects on the world.
Positive: it preaches peace and people will be nice, and not murder others, so that they can get into heaven.
Negative: though the whole murder thing doesn't really follow through as it's meant to be "though shalt not kill" though it's closer too "don't kill unless someone has slightly different beliefs to you" also a fuck load of wars have revolved around religion, thats the main thing that I have against religions the conflict it brings, the murders. The religions had the potential of making this world peaceful but all the people that will kill over their beliefs caused it to cause the most wars and destroy more peace than it made.

That's just religion in general though, I respect anyone that thinks about there religion and still sticks by it.

Sorry if I sounded anti-religious there again I don't have anything against people whatever their religious beliefs and I don't have anything against individual religions just religion in general annoys me because of all the violence caused by it, that's not even the point in religion, the point of it is to preach peace and to be nice to one and other and to avoid fearing death and wondering what happens after death. I can respect all that stuff but sadly most religions have gone to the "you have different beliefs to me, you shall die" side of things.
