Marijuana Changing Perspective
65% Normal

When I get high on pot I start feeling really ugly and I am 100% convinced that my boyfriend doesn't like me anymore and my friends think I'm stupid and/or obnoxious. I don't have these thoughts when I'm not high, but they're so vivid and seem so real every time. I can't even really effectively pysch myself out of these feelings until I come down. Is this common?
Do you think it's normal?

Marijuana is a downer and can make you very depressed and paranoid. Stop smoking for a while and see how much better you feel.

Marijuana can have this kind of effect on some peoples: it's a depressant. Stop smoking for a while, see if it changes anything. On the other hand, you might not have a great self esteem to begin with...

You can tell most of you are pot smokers to say the least. Take another look at what most of you wrote. You guys sound very uneducated. I bet your pot smoking left you with one brain cell. Keep smoking.
As for the girl with the problem, Pot depletes the serotonin in your brain. That regulates your emotions. You need to quit smoking pot and try a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. It will help you to feel happy and normal again. I say to try the reuptake inhibitor so you can replenish what the pot has made you lose.
This is really common. Pot makes everyone paranoid occasionally, but if it makes you paranoid every single time, you should probably just not smoke it. Doesn't mean you need to take antidepressants the rest of the time, like anonymous above says.
It's normal -- depression is a common side-effect of marijuana. The best thing to do would probably be to quit smoking it, but if you don't want to do that, you might try smoking it from a different source/strain than you normally do to see if it makes a difference. You might also try getting high very slowly... lots of time between inhalations so you can judge how high you're getting... you may find that there's a point where you can be pleasantly high without being high enough to get the paranoia.
Maybe marijuana is just not your drug. I'm in no way anti-pot, but maybe it's just not for you.
I smoked weed for years, it was my drug of choice as alcohol made me feel sick. However, I had to stop smoking due to the reasons you have mentioned in your post. I was getting paranoid delusions which were getting steadily worse the longer and harder I smoked. It's been 5 years since I was a regular smoker and I have had the occaisional toke since then but if I have more than half a joint it totally wrecks my head - horrible!

I have a smoking buddy from college days and developed full blown schizophrenia from it. Ended up robbing his local shop with a kitchen knife so they put him in a mental hospital. The case went to court and the only way they would release him was if he subjected to monthly dope tests to make sure he wasn't going back on it. He's made a full recovery now, thankfully.

Be careful with your mind, there is a very fine line between being sane and insane.

I find this happens to me too. I find that if i sit and tell myself it's just the weed and then try to laugh at myself it can go away. Remember it's just the weed.

Then sotp smoking the shit!! That should do the trick.
Weed affects people differently. I never really got paranoid, just lazy. I still smoke (reduced my intake greatly,) but I recommend you stop. Take amphetamines instead, lay off the valium. NOICE.
Yes, give yourself amphetamine psychosis instead, that'll sort out all of your problems.

Try anal sex instead, it's free and you probably can't get a mental disorder from indulging in it.
There are thousands of different types of weed; each one has a different affect. If you're feeling paranoid you're almost certainly smoking a strain which contains a lot of a chemical called 'THC'; which makes many people very paranoid, and if used heavily long term (years) by people young enough for their brains to still be developing (under 25), can actually affect the way your brain develops, and cause you to be more paranoid even after having stopped smoking. For life. It's a medically recognised condition called 'cannabis psychosis'. The way to stop this, is to smoke a different strain, one which is low in THC, and high in the other main chemical present in marijuana; known as 'CBD'. CBD can be found in strains which are referred to as 'indica'. THC-rich strains are called 'sativa'. You're more likely to get sativa strains on the streets. Indica is rather rare. You just need to find a strain which you enjoy, just because some types make you paranoid does not mean all will. If you can't find a strain which is CBD rich (it's hard, even most dealers don't have a clue what they're selling), then it's probably time to just quit smoking pot!.

I find that when I am high, I tend to be a tad more paranoid and think that my cousin, who is usually high with me, hates me or thinks I'm stupid. Weed does that sometimes, I just ignore it and keep smoking the bowl.
Hi I need to know where you found out that marijuana depletes serotonin thanks so much

i smoke pot quite often, rarly does this happen to me. although my brothers girlfriend said this happens to her when she smokes (tryed it a few times) she said it made her paranoid, costerfobic, and she over analized everything, im pretty sure if i felt like that when i was high i wouldnt want to smoke.
Send your address, I have something very useful for a downer.
there are certain types of pot for certain types of people and you have to grow it to ever learn enough about it to help . some people who could benefit in someway from smoking cannabis choose to quit because they cant always get the right kind or any kind at all . honestly , thinking your boyfriend thinks your ugly or your cousin hates you when you are high is probably a more "real" thought than you think ,not that you are ugly or hated at all just that pot helps us realise other peoples intentions and energy maybe your boyfriend is a dick and pot helps you change your life or maybe you need some healing and the pot helped you to feel where your healing should begin.
anonymous is completely wrong with regards to multiple claims. 1. there are plenty of educated individuals who use 2. there is no evidence pot influences serotonin levels (in fact THC effects have nothing to do with this neurotransmitter) 3. anonymous says the people who have posted are uneducated but the comment anonymous posted is completely ignorant of all current research regarding pot. a drugs impact is influenced by multiple variables (current emotional/mental state, biochemical composition, food ingested, etc. I'm not saying drugs are good or bad but do not listen to that dunce!
THE ISSUE IS NOT THE WEED. when you get paranoid, especially about a specific thing, like a relationship, in your life, you have some issues you need to work through. weed in many cases basically amplifies the thoughts that you have, so if something in your life is causing you to feel bad, this sensation will be amplified.
basically,
try asking yourself why you feel that way and you'll find the answer
I have to say that I think marijuana brings out things in your mind that were there in the first place. Just a theory. Confront these things.
