Im not an animal rights activist or anything like that. In my opinion if you cant put it on a plate and eat it its not worth knowing about. People are so concerned about animal cruelty and will bycott all meat products in sympathy.
My question is this
what about our friends inthe vegetable kingdom. Just because we cant hear their pain does it mean they dont have any. They are living creatures that grow and evolve the same as anything else yet we constantly torture them without a second thought. If you could hear a plant scream when you pulled it out of the ground would you have second thoughts abouut eating it.
Is it normal to have sympathy for our friends in the vegetable and plant community?
Good luck on that, please give us an update in a week's time on your air only diet.
I think plants love life in their own way. So you're always killing something that doesnt want to die whenever you eat anything.
but dying is everyone's fate anyway, isn't it? and most of us don't want to go when the time comes.
Ok now I have myself all depressed, so I have to go out now and get some pink taco. I can eat that all night long and no one gets killed. or at least not usually.
I hope this didn't increase your suffering.
Hello Cab, you bring up a valid point here. Ya see, I think on a serious note those people that do not eat a certain type of food, wether it be meat or veggies, because of cruelty or what have u, are f*cking morons.
So everybody shut up and stuff ur mouth.
Peace Out
The Weasel
But hey, what if they really did have feelings? :O
It makes ya think....
then no its not normal
plants don't feel pain everyone knows dat.
Plant's don't possess any of these characteristics.
So in answer to your question. Yes trees and plants are living organisms, but no they cannot feel anything, think anything, or really do anything, except respond to outside stimuli. In other words your guilt is completely pointless.
I really hope that has cleared it up for you.
BUT just in case you do care, I will explain:
Harachi said it succinctly. Plants don't have any of the mechanisms that animals (including humans) have to feel pain. It is logical to give animals the benefit of the doubt when it comes to suffering, but just plain stupid to attempt to extend the same to plants.
Also, no veggie/vegan advocates death by starvation. There's lots of variation within our community, but the main reason vegans like me refuse to consume animal products is because they are unnecessary.
If it's a matter of survival, that is different. (But for many people in the West, that's not the case.) Therefore, even if vegetables could feel pain, it would be a matter of survival for humans to consume them.
Let's assume plants did feel pain. A vegetable-based diet would still cause less suffering because of the animals that eat tons of plants daily and environmental reasons.
The advantages go on and on... lower risk of heart disease and obesity, animal welfare issues, etc.
In any case, plants are an important part of a balanced diet.
IMO, if you are so concerned about it, and think that you can do any good for your cause, know that only other people that are like minded care. nobody else does, or ever will. and i will laugh on your Mal-nourished graves.
Plus what you gonna eat? Synthetic chemicals all your life or just animal by-products like milk and cheese?
