Every time I turn off all the lights in my basement I run like hell up the stairs. I think the guy from The Shining will come out of my boiler room screaming and swinging an axe at me. WTF is wrong with me????
there could really be a lost soul or ghost in there i had one in my house i had to get a witch to clean the house because supposibly my house was a torture room where they performed acts of violence in the late 1800s to native americans and i actually looked it up and was true about the area so it tied into my house
It's just a phobia I used to think death (yes death, Robe scythe the lot) was after me in my basement (but only when the lights were off). Spend some time there, alone or with a friend (one you trust and can be told why you're doing this), Then start spending longer and longer intervals there. Soon the fears should subside. At least as long as the guy from the shining isn't actually there hiding in your boiler. Me? I like the quiet solitude down in my basement now even more so when it's dark.
OMG its that feeling that once you turn the last one. you get that one REALLY SCARY feeling in the sides of your neck near the back that you walk slowly or run, but running makes you feel like someone is actully behind you... omg i hate that so much. thank god my dad installed sliding door for light...
I live in a room located in the basement of my home. There's a sliding door in the room leading to it, too. I always imagine someone hiding in one of the many rooms around mine, especially if I'm coming downstairs when it's pitch black. Creepy ass shit. I can't wait to move.
im freaked out by my basement too,i got paranormal activity down there,my papaws old bed is down there (he died of cancer when i was 3 or 4.) and i just dont feel safe.
some places can give anyone scares, for me it was the funeral home basement at my aunts, if your willing to try you should even fight any fears you have and stay in the basement with the lights off for a while
I used to be like that too. Eventually (at the age of 25), I gradually overcame that fear. Though I'm occasionally scared of the basement, like after I watch a horror movie or something.
I too used to be really afraid of my basement. Then once i got taller things seemed much smaller to me and I didn't think that there would be a ghost where the furnace was.
I always take a second look when I go into and leave the basement.
If it wasnt for that damn washer and dryer I would never go down there unless I was having sex with a hooker and my friends were upstairs passed out after a night of getting lit at the strip clubs haha.
kinda happens to me too, when im coming from the kitchen/playroom/garage and go past my room while the lights of, i run, thinking something will leap out and kill me
it is totally normal! i run like hell times the max when i turn off the lights in my basement. i think that ghosts are going to come get me. i even try to talk to the ghosts in my head telling them that it's ok and to pls don't hurt me. i think my condition isn't so normal but yours totally is. don't worry.
Yes, I have that problem too. Fear is a natural instinct when confronted with the unknown. I have similar problems with bathrooms, and any place dark and/or quiet. Another thing that can cause fear such as this is the fact that basements are usually filled with electric equipment and, being surrounded by earth, are electrically grounded. This causes large electromagnetic fields. EMFs have been shown to generate a feeling similar to fear in people. It's perfectly normal.
I'm white and I walk through the black ghettos at night with a business suit on with pockets full of cash after work, that's a hell of a lot more "scary" and dangerous than some fucking basement. Man up you wimp.
Hi I'm 10 am I am still afraid of my basement too. Anyway I play the piano and my piano is in the basement! My mom makes me pratice the piano every day for a hour!!! Our basement is very dark it has lots of things in it so I think they are like monsters or ghosts or something. Once when I was playing the piano the power went off I screamed like very loud my voice was so high that my parents couldn't here me. So dude you are a 10000000%% normal even more than normal.
man whats wrong with you. everytime i turn off the lights i think michael myers is gonna get me! But the guy from the shining. seriously mike is so much scarier.
Holy crap! Jack Nicholson hangs out in your basement? Why the hell are you running away from him? Invite him upstairs and offer him a drink! He's an A list, extremely famous celebrity! I wish my life had 1/100th the excitemnt yours does.
I have a really huge basement also. The house that i live in has a lot of history to it.When i go in my basement i notice that there are lumps in the floor.I think there are bodys buried in the floor.I do not know but it is safe the dead wont hurt it is the alive that will harm you.
I usually sits in complete darkness when im on the toilet and im fine with that, but if i am walking around in the house I always get scared, probably because there is more space there.
Totally normal. It is a common fact that ALL basements are evil. Well, not strictly true; studies suggest that over 98%% of basements consist of atleast 6%% rugs, bric-a-brac, and old ming vases.
Part of it..if you feel like you're being WATCHED is that high levels of electromagnatism affects your brain waves and you have that feeling of being watched. This commonly happens in areas like basements or attics because of the electric. ACCORDING TO TAPS.
OMG I'm like that with my laundry! If I'm in there, as soon as I turn the light off I run like hell and close the door behind me, I don't know why though
oh my what a BADASS dam if we only half as BADASS as you then we wouldn't have any worries
...i know this post is a little old but i use to have the same problem when i was little, as soon as the light went off i'd run like hell too... its because it's dark and you can't see anything and the basement does feel "paranormal"... so you run...
very normal... you'll get over it trust me... if you haven't already
LMAO! At night when I go to put my laptop up or whatever, I go in the hallway and the lights are ALL off. It just freaks me out. First I do what I need to do then I RUN my butt to the living room or room.
I get the same feeling when I run up mt normal stairs xD LOL But it is totally normal, maybe you have something paranormal activity going on but please don't do what the retards did in the movie HAHA But whenever you go down there take a friend or girlfriend or something I have to have my botfriend always with me xD hahahaha
My dog has to come with me to the basement otherwise I'm scared that cockroaches are going to smother me. Idk why it helps though, because my dog has somehow picked up my phobia, and now she runs from cockroaches -_-
i am like that with my loft i hate it.It was converted into 3 rooms and i never go up there as it creeks and the doors shut and open on their own it has freaked me out since i watched the ring dont even ask why that made me feel this i has hyper on doctor pepper that night lol oh yeah i also cannot enter a room with a wardrobe or washing basket without looking in it to make sure no freaky peados are hiding in there :)
I'm the same too. I don't have a basement thank God, but I have been freaked out by different areas around the places I lived. I once had a phobia of our bathroom - it was an en suite and I could see directly into it from my bed at night, so I had to close the doors, otherwise I couldn't sleep. I think it's normal, but then again, just maybe it's our esp alerting us to strange things beyond explanation... I dunno, I'm skeptical, but I also sit on the fence sometimes. I think maybe we might be picking up on different energy patterns that cause our instincts to kick in and we experience the fight or flight thing. Must be something like that. I still get freaked out sometimes. The last time was in my kids room. I got the heck out of there and the hairs on my neck were bristling. Afterwards I feel like a total dick!
OOH YEAH MAYBE YOU HAVE A TORTURED SOUL IN YOUR CELLAR. Actually, I think you're just scared of what can't be seen in the dark, just like pretty much every other human. Yippee!
The guy from the Shining was in like a huge mansion, with a hedge maze. Probably not where you live. However, wasn't there something about Freddy Kruger being around a basement boiler room or something?
I know I'm not helping, but if your going to be frightened of a horror film figure, at least have it be the right one.
You know what I did? I went to the basement one time and turned off all the lights and instead of running I sat down on the floor and said to myself "What the hell, whatever is here I'm greater that it" I sat there for 20 mins and nothing happened !!
Every time i run up the stairs i slam the door shut cause i think that if i look back down the dark stairs somebody will coming crawling up or some chick will be all cut up and grab me then drag me down the stairs..i know EXACTLY how you feel. Pretty normal.
Ok so I have this bathroom mirror with crack in it. Whenever I flush the toilet I turn the light off and run like he'll to get out of there. Becuz when I flush the toilet screams like a little girl
its not a basement but my grandparents house has one set of stairs up to the second floor then another set of wooden stairs up to this old atic room, all the tiolets are upstairs every time it gets dark i go up to the tiolet and run like hell back downstairs for some reason it isnt even that scary it just feels evil.
yeah, normal. i get scared easily since i'm young. i couldn't even go to our bathroom alone! someone has to go with me and wait by the door. i know....it sux. it just feels like someone is always going to get me or something..just thinking about it makes me shiver since i'm alone right now, parents at work.
I have had the same problem my entire life. I would consider this normal. My bedroom was in the basement for 13 years. Every time that I would leave my room I would book it to the stairs envisioning a hand with a very stretchy arm reaching around corners to come after me and pull me into the depths of oblivion. Then it was a mistake to watch the original Amytiville Horror. Whatever you do, don't watch that movie.
It's a good thing u do run my proffession is I hide in peoples basements and when they turn around I lick the back of their neck then dissappear into the shadows
Of course it's normal! if you're not the type of person who's afraid of cold dark basements you're probably the type of person who likes to hide in them!!! Eeek!!
When I was younger I was scared of the basement, too. I read this story from a book about this monster who wanted to eat this kid's toe, and I thought he would come up from the basement to eat mine. Also, I had nightmares that the guy from the "Operation" game would come out of my closet and dissect me. Yeah.
its a natural defense mechanism that all humans posses, its because deep down we are all afraid of the dark, the discovery channel did a whole 2 hour thing about why we are scared of the dark
I know I would be, Id be like "OH MY GOD JACK NICHOLSEN IS IN MY HOUSE I HAVE TO TAKE PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE, and then we would hang out and then I would befriend him and become a celebrity."
i had something like that from when i was 3 till i was 7 ... except it was a giant moon from a sessame street game. (the lights were all off my brother had turned the brightness of the tv off. tv speakers full blast. chose the wrong answer. loudest noise ever.)
Me? I like the quiet solitude down in my basement now even more so when it's dark.
Awwh : )
Nawwh don't worry cause it's totally normal!
I've had many incidents like that since I was small ... it's pretty funny though :P
hahah! mine situation same as u, run fast as possible..
i always imagine(or thought)there were "something" are chase me or watching me...
Look around and it will help.
it usually happens to me with the hall of my house, so fucking scary.
And my room is in the basement ):
You should see me when I make my way to the bathroom at night. :P
Don't look at the dark corner.
I always take a second look when I go into and leave the basement.
If it wasnt for that damn washer and dryer I would never go down there unless I was having sex with a hooker and my friends were upstairs passed out after a night of getting lit at the strip clubs haha.
i think uv seen 2 many movies young one
im the same way..
a basement is just a structure;your fear is of mans cruel nature.
If I'm in there, as soon as I turn the light off I run like hell and close the door behind me, I don't know why though

I have to have my botfriend always with me xD hahahaha
She's a big fucking dog ffs.
Then turn the TV off and to to sleep there.
It will help you.
Actually, I think you're just scared of what can't be seen in the dark, just like pretty much every other human. Yippee!

i do the same thing all the time XD
totally normal
i get scared easily since i'm young.
