My boyfriend is freaked out by condiments. He cant even stand to look at ketchup. The thought of Mayo makes him sick. BBQ sauce or salad dressing, maple syrup, A1, mustard, hot sauce, sour cream, dip, jam or jelly all makes him want to vomit, even if he's near it. He hates to even sit near me when I eat my food with this stuff although he has gotten used to it. He used to even make me rinse with mouth wash before he would kiss me after I ate some. He will eat, salt, butter, pepper, garlic powder and sometimes use olive oil. The weird thing is that he says he has never in his life tried any of this stuff. He's almost 28.

What gives. Is this normal? I think not.

NOT normal. That's just weird... It's one thing to dislike condiments, but to be unable to look at them? Uh-uh.
I used to have a boyfriend who was the exact same way. He would not add anything to his food besides salt. Also, he never ate fruits or veggies and hardly ever drank water. It wasn't a very healthy diet, but he apparently had no health problems.
Most of the males I know are very picky eaters....which is strange to me because I thought boys devoured everything in sight. Another example is my best male friend. He does not like anything creamy(ie: sour cream, butter, yogurt, salad dressing, etc). He complains about the texture and how the cold temperature of these ingredients aren't pleasant to him.
Maybe your boyfriend is the same way and doesn't like the thought of the texture and the consistency of condiments. This could be a sensory thing, but there's nothing wrong with that. It IS kind of strange how he gets so worked about being around condiments though. It's good that you are helping him get over his fear, haha. Maybe one day he'll try some!
Sounds like a phobia...
Heh I want to bring him to Mcdonalds or a grocery store, seems like fun.
problem had some texture issues
I also hate condiments, and I have my whole life. I have been trying to be better at accepting other people's condiment usage, especially my husband's. I am so grossed out by them, I don't even like touching the bottle even with the lid on... I can't kiss him for hours afterwards even if he brushes... and when I swallow his cum I think it tastes like condiments so I try not to taste it. My husband happens to be obsessed with condiments too, so it's not just one serving he has with his food, it's half a cup of ranch with his carrots/pizza/salad etc and ketchup and whatever else. Puke.

I also in recovery from an eating disorder, and they always kept trying to tell me in rehab that this was part of it, and I told them it has nothing to do with it, that stuff is disgusting to! smell, texture, everything.

food tastes flavorful enough in my opinion.
NORMAL - I am very similar.
My 'complex' is less severe than your Boyfriend's tbhough...
He kind of sounds like me. I absolutely cannot stand peanut butter and refuse to be around it. I have in the past eaten things with peanut butter in them and I didn't mind it until I found it it had peanut butter and then from that moment further I couldn't stand it.

I don't know when it started but my parents swear that I used to like it in my toddler stages. Like I said, I don't remember it so I don't believe them as I find it is the most nasty stuff created.

My hatred toward peanut butter is so bad I won't kiss my girlfriend when she has eaten some and refuse to try anything even around peanut butter out of a rediculous fear of cross contamination.
Some of that stuff is kind of grungy, I would say your boyfriend has less of a fear and more of a just general disgust for the stuff mentioned above I'm about the same way with cheese the stuff disgusts me. But it is a little odd that he has never tried any of the stuff before maybe sneak some of it onto his food some time.
I can't stand eating with someone who uses salad dressing or anything similar. I won't freak out or make a scene, but I might show signs of being disturbed by it.
