I don't find this awkward at all. Now, you probably haven't stated everything in the situation. Does the father ever walk around in his underwear? My father tends to do it a lot, sometimes even while my friends are around. I'm a 19 year old male, and he's done it ever since I can remember. I bet 40-50%, if not more, of American fathers (that's not including the rest of America) do it.
I feel, that unless she is making some kind of scene while doing it (going for attention) it's really not a terrible thing. Why should it make anyone awkward unless you're insecure about your own body, or the one you are seeing?
