My mom's behavior

So I have a mom who's been verbally abusive towards me since I was 12 and has continued doing that for over half my life. Whenever I'm happy or days that would usually end happily, Christmas, my birthday, etc, she always jabs me with hurtful words or finds some way to end the day miserably. Sometimes she'll even insult me out of the blue. She encourages my depression.

Remove yourself from her life, she's not worth it

Trust me after 39 years of dealing with a narcissistic mother like yours it never ends. Stay away as much as you can. It will eat you alive if spend too much time around her. It doesn't get better.

This is "normal" in the sense that it's a very common occurrence, but it's obviously not a good thing.

I'm sure you've tried to talk to her about this, correct? If she's not listening to how she makes you feel, then she may have NPD (not trying to diagnose, but a friend of mine's mother had it and my friend had to cut her out of her life. She's much happier now, although it was a hard thing to do.)

I hate to resort to suggesting people cut others close to them out of their lives, but in this sort of scenario... It's one of the only things that seems to improve one's mental state.

Is it okay if I ask how old you are? If you're old enough to move out, avoiding her would be a lot easier.

Your mother may love you but she does have a problem that needs to be medicated.

I'm sure along with all the shit she gives you she suffers from just as much anxiety and depression over something she can't understand.

And I'm also willing to bet she has a substance abuse problem, either pills or alcohol.

It's a coping method.

My father was this way, I almost erased him out of my life, but decided to stick with him and get him help. now me and him go fishing every weekend and he's a lot better person to be with.

Your mothers behaviour towards you is all in your head, she is only doing whats best for you.

Try thinking very hard what you are doing to upset your mother so much that she must retaliate with hurtful words, then you will have your answer and be in a position to stop antagonising your poor mother into saying hurtful things towards you!

Once you have that under the knee, your relationship with your mother with flower into a beautiful thing!

LOVE and RESPECT = LOVE and RESPECT
You can attract a lot more flies with honey than with shit!

And how do you know OP's mother just wants what's best for her son/daughter? Do you know the mother personally? Have you met her? No? Then fuck off with that bullshit.

There are a lot of mothers who manipulate and lie to their children just because something may have not gone their way, I know this from personal experience. My mother used to beat me, yeah sometimes I did deserve it but most of the time it was when I hadn't done anything wrong and minding my own business.

There was a time when I was four years old I had accidentally made a mess and my mother forced my underwear at my face and told me to eat my mess, there was a time when I spilt water on the bathroom floor and she held my head under the bath water. Does this sound loving to you?

She still verbally abuses and blackmails me today, steals my money, but I'm glad I'm not living with her, and to be honest if she died today I wouldn't shed a tear. Not all mothers are perfect and do whats right for their child, does being an alcoholic and getting drunk while your 10 year old diabetic daughter is in your care sound responsible and right? My mother doesn't care for me or my sister, and I've had 18 years to realize that. I hope you realize that not all mothers want what's best for their children.

If someone comes up to you on the street randomly with no provocation and says "fuck you" that isn't in your head. this is basically what OPs mother is doing and you think thats just in his head?

the OP was not on the street, the OP provoked his / her mother into a rage and deserves what he / she got! Children without respect for their elders should be kicked out on the street.

It doesnt matter is he provoked it or not. this behavior is abusive. theres a difference between discipline and abuse.
