Yes, some Americans are narrow-minded but some people like you for instance are pretty much narrow-minded too since you know people like you from China or Timbuktu think WE Americans are all the same. =)

Most Americans don't actually think that, it's just that the idiots who do think that get the most attention

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Do you realize waht you are doing right now? You are stereotyping an entire people.
I'll have you know that many many Americans are open-minded people. Yes, there are those who stereotype others, but despite this we are a good people.
I'm also well-aware of the stereotypes put against Americans: that we are arrogant, fat, aggressive. stupid and of course, narrow-minded. Do you truely believe any of these things about us? Do you assume that I have any of these characteristics despite the fact that you never met me? If you do than I believe the thing for you to do is to 'remove the speck out of your own eye.'
We Americans really are a wonderful people. It's too bad you fail to see that and see the good in us, because I may very well see good in your people whoever they may be.

not all Americans are like that, ur basing it on a stereotype which is kinda hypocritical but what eva. i know a few Americans that aren't at all like that.

By saying that aren't yourself being narrow minded? Americans aren't stereotypical of everyone for anything, you may have seen in movies what you think is how americans act or maybe you live here and have encountered some people who are like that but the majority of us are open to many different cultures, but when we come across something thats morally not right, like the violation of human rights in places such as china or darfur, we begin to have a mental image of that place form and therefore we begin to not like that place so very much and push for political action to change that

You came up with one stereotype that I've never heard of: Chinese suck at English. And furthermore, isn't saying "Americans are narrow-minded" a stereotype in itself? Think before you put finger to keyboard.

Now to explain the misconception;

Fox news is the main central hive of bigotry, narrow-mindedness, jackass-ery, and douchebaggery. The strictly republican network spreads lies and viciousness about everyone who is a little different. For instance, they have been insulting and degrading and bringing down our current president - Barack Obama. They have called him Hitler, a communist, socialist(which doesn't make sense), and have accused him of planning out Death panels.

This is the brand of shitty people polluting our airwaves. Not all republicans are bad-most of them aren't. I'm just saying, they'll believe anything. And it's painting that image about America that I despise.

So think before you make a generalization. And it doesn't matter anyways--Everyone Generalizes about something.

Only dumbasses are believe stereotypes precisely. However, most stereotypes are true if you think of them as generalizations and not necessarily true for individuals.

Stereotypes exist because they are general monikers by which we label groups of people to simplify our lives. It is impossible to know each and every member of a particular group which is why stereotypes begin. Let's say for example that you meet one person from a particular background. Let's say you meet an intelligent African American. You may hypothesize that all African Americans are smart. The same applies to other skills and attributes for various peoples. It's not just Americans which stereotype. Everyone around the world use stereotypes in an attempt to understand the world. There is nothing wrong with stereotypes. They are just convenient labels for various groups.

I lived in America quite awhile to totally agree with you actually couldn't agree with you more! Not only narrow minded but also shallow!!!

But again....Don't we stereotype all Americans narrow-minded don't we do the same thing? :/ Now let's say there are some 'narrow-minded people population' in America but they are not all like that. Better eh? :)

Yes MOST Americans are idiots. Weak minded sheep who follow what ever they are told. They think everyplace else in the world is a 3rd world country and every other people in the world are stupid....esp, if they don't speak English.

But the reality is most people in the world speak multiple languages EXCEPT stupid Americans and America is FAST becoming a 3rd world country.

This is a pretty vague & pointless question. Some events/people in the US are narrow and racist - the last lynching was only 20 years or so ago. But who honestly doesn't look to the US for some of the most progressive ideas in the world? And what is so great about anywhere else?

People complain way too much about Americans. Honestly, I have tons of complaints about people of other nationalities but I don't care enough to let it bother me so I keep it to myself. People are annoying. Get over it.
