I can't stand it when people chew really loudly, or make smacking noises.

It makes me feel violent.

And I think nothing makes a person look more stupid.

Is this normal?

I often find myself literally digging my nails into my legs in order to withstand the noise of someone smacking and slurping and chomping their food down >< and I've noticed that the people who call me oversensitive are always the same people that eat like a pig at a trough.. surely it's not too much to ask people to gulp air and food seperately? lol

I loath smacking. Chips and popcorn and gum drive me crazy. If i can chew without smacking so the fuck can you. It makes me want to drop kick them in the face.

Totally normal, I walked out on a first date once because of it.

yep noisy eating is one the most inexplicable instigators of violent thoughts and feelings ever in my whole life(right up there with opinionated ignoramus')

I have hated gum my whole life. All my friends know they cannot chew around me period, and luckily they're fine with it. It's NASTY, as with any noisy eating behavior like coffee slurping, popcorn, chips...

YOU ARE COMPLETELY NORMAL AND ALSO WELL MANNERED. Don't underestimate the noisy eater and don't be fooled that they have an impediment of any kind that excuses their behaviour. They are simply ill mannered pigs. I sit near a person (although he probably qualifies as an animal) who eats up to 5 large apples at his desk a day. (For those with unhelpful solutions to this problem please note: if we could move we would. If we could work with music blaring in our ears to block the pigs out all day - we would. But these strategies are not logistical). Why he has to eat at his desk is unclear; why he has to eat 5 apples a day is more unclear; and why he cannot use a knife like all the evolved persons and cut his apple up and eat it with his mouth closed like a human being is a complete mystery. but no he has to take big crunching bites directly into the apple every other minute with his ugly big teeth. This man also sneezes and coughs most of the day without even attempting to cover his mouth or show any breeding in this regard. For those who have made comments about the violent nature of the people being tormented by these pigs, you might need to endure pig company for a sustained period of time before you earn the right to pass comment. As is usally the case though - those who defend badly behaved people or do not recognise badly behaved people do so because they do not know or practice good behaviour themselves. This is the sad reflection of our society. Grow up and have some manners.

eliminateappleeaterseverywhere people like you irritate me beyond the darkest depths of hell.

I am a noisy eater I freely admit. If I want to eat any meal in less than 6 hours I think I need to be noisy. I do not eat with my mouth open nor am I noisy purposefully. I also swallow loudly. If I am at your dinner party feel free to tell me to be quiet but if you dare to say I have bad manners then I will personally force you to sit next to me for those 6 hours and show me your exceptional manners.

The minute someone shows me how to eat quietly without wasting half my day I will do so but until you have such a suggestion why don't you just not complain

rant over

Usually, chewing with your mouth closed doesn't make a lot of noise. I get that you will do what you want to, but it's very offensive! When I hear people smacking, slurping and talking with their mouth open I lose my appetite. It's not even about time, though. You can eat a five course meal in 15 minutes and still be considerate of the people around you and sound like a human being. It's like talking about inappropriate things at dinner, you just don't do it!
Comment Hidden (show)
Also, if you only put into your mouth what can fit into your mouth, that usually helps to eliminate the disgusting sound. The food is on your plate, it can't move. Take your damn time to eat and enjoy the food and stop being such a cave person. PS: This is not a personal attack. I just think noisy and messy eating is so offensive and rude.

Some people can't help it, like breathing problems (sinus issues and the like). Some were raised without manners. A coworker of mine chews like my dog. Can't stand it, and I refuse to take lunch breaks with him. I haven't asked him why he chew like an animal yet and the more I listen to it the more it sickens me. So for all you loud chewers, if you can't help it then you're excused. For all others please join the human race and show some manners.

i fn hate it

nice, this is a huge pet peeve of mine too! i usually don't have to deal with it except around my parents, i always make sure to have loud music handy here at my apartment.

my mom is the worst for it, at the dinner table me and my parents wouldn't talk much for a bit, and she'd chew and swallow so loudly!!!!! i'd end up blowing up at her and taking my dinner downstairs to eat alone.

i thought i was the only one in the world who cant handle the sound of people eating... my parents did it growing up and I could barely stand to sit at the same table... my roommate does it.. i can hear her eat in the other room.. it digs my deepest nerve to where i cant stand being in the same room with her anymore. How do i tellher it bothers me without going psycho? or should i just keep it to myself? I am by nature very patient but this is my button. Any suggestions welcome.
Thank you.

Oh me too! Particularly with my mother. It's so quiet and all I can hear is her eating. It makes me want to stick my fork into her forehead. I also hate the sounds of food being cut up, particularly pasta.
Comment Hidden (show)
Poor manners are to blame for much of this and the parents didn't teach them right from wrong. The reason why it is so irritating to you is because you likely have good table manners and would like others to show the same respect back to you. The world doesn't work that way, wish it did. Best to just avoid those who bother us, as often as possible.

The sound of eating really irks my husband. I don't eat loudly, but if it's cereal or something, I have to eat in another room. The kids really drive him nuts. It's normal to not like the sound of eating.

It's like I tell my kids -
"You stop smacking, or I will start smacking!"

It bugs the crap out of me when people do that.
& when they smack & crack their gum.
It's all just as bad as nails on a chalk board to me.

I really am extrasensitive to this. I've threatened to KILL people for this and actually injured some. Sometimes I actually imagine the noises when no one is even eating... @_@

My boss chews with his mouth open. It's a small office. I refuse to go into the lunch room anymore. Worse yet he walks aroud smacking gum and will get right up in my face. When he's not chewing gum, he snaps his fingers andjiggles change all while circling my and a co-workers desk. I have had day dreams about smashing my computer monitor in his face many times....I do it more when he taps on my desk when he walks by

A flatmate does it. Not a full cement mixer job, but his mouth comes open as his jaw goes down and makes a smacking noise. He must hear himself do it. I want to scream at him "close your effing mouth!" The thing is, a friend told me he doesn't do it in front of his mum, he knows he does it and it annoys people and he doesn't care. Also he drinks everything like its hot soup, even cold water, inhaling through his mouth while drinking and making slurping noises. Maybe I should get a dog and feed it at the same time. Anyway, I thought it was me who had the problem, until I googled 'noisy eaters' WHAT a relief! Its them, not meeeee!!!

Every day my boss Schlops his food down. His desk is right infront of mine and I have to look straight at him. It drives me CRAZY. Normally I'll put my head phones, time my lunch break or take a cig break.

Worst food is oranges.

I know we could say something- If it was anyone else in the company I might but not him.

ahhh, when I was a kid, my mom took care of the neighbor boy - 3 of us about 5 years old -he was a noisy eater - my mom's pet peeve. My mom brought some clothes pins to the table - gave warnings.... and well the neighbor kid's mouth got pinned. I learned to eat quietly but my pet peeve now is......that it bugs me if people eat loudly.....popcorn and chips during movies or when the room is quiet.....eeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!!! like scratching the chalk board. think I inherited this pet peeve. when my friend comes over to watch movies, she often has crunchy munchies with her and I think.......there goes another evening.....sigh. Her other quiet eater friends don't seem to mind her chomp down.

dont worry i cant stand it either!! lol

OMG I am glad I am not the only one who has to put up with noisy eaters.
My flat mate eats with her mouth open all the time!!! and it isn't in the sense that you can grin and bear for 5 mins, it is to the extent that you can be in the next room and still hear it!!!! I don't know what to do I don't want to slap her down, i don't want to embarrass her but I just can't take it any more!!!!

i hate when older womenz lip smack der chikkin
Comment Hidden (show)
I live in China, that's 1 billion plus lip smackers, it drives me right fucking mad. Can you imagine? But it is me who should probably learn how to deal with it and not become so irritated by it.
Comment Hidden (show)
I agree that this is intolerable rude behavior, especially at work. I sit in a cube in front of
a total pig, in every way- eating, yelling, no one stops its behavior, because it is so obnoxious no one wants to deal with it. It's ugly too. Ugly on the inside=ugly on the outside.

Ommmmmgggggggggggggggg

i thought my bestest friend was a psycho.

i was eating froot loops just like anybody else, you know with milk, and then drinking up the rest of the pink milk. My important friend made a small comment on the noisiness of my morning meal. needless to say that small comment led to a bigger comeback (it was so good i can't repeat it for the sake of my friend) which escalated to an angry reply, finally retorted by me with another big slurp of milk. and i know none of you will believe me when i tell you, but when i unfairly slurped up the rest of my milk just to hurt my very dear friend he dropped dead. just like that.

i thought he was faking it.

i couldn't believe that such a simple thing like slurping while you eat could turn into such an antagonizing act. i realized my mistake while staring at him, his neck alkwardly twisted and limp on the kitchen table, as if in his last moment of strength he had managed to avoid a messy fall into his own bowl of chex lying inches away from his pale face. he was truly a man who hated noisy messes to the end of his days.

now that i have your heartstrings in grasp, i will reveal the true meaning behind my story. the man lying dead on the kitchen table is me, and his feelings are mine. His friend with the noisy mouth, well, I have no friend because no one seems to understand me. I have not died, I am very much alive. If you ever meet someone who can%%u2019t handle noisy eating, please, don%%u2019t curse them and think them odd, but linger by their side and get to know them. That person could be me.

Totally,
One of my main challenges in life is having a complete intolerance to smacking. For 15 years I have struggled with having no ability to tolerate being around smacking. It's awful. I get the same reaction as a person gets to nails on a chalkboard. I often feel like an crazed animal backed into a corner when I'm in a social situation where I can't politely run from the room.
I don't know what to do about it. Can't change other people, that's for damn sure, but I can't keep living like this. What do you do about it?

How the hell can you be turned on by that??
It is very possible (and much more ladylike) to give quiet, mind-blowing head.
Comment Hidden (show)
I can't believe how violent you all are. Killiing, hitting people in the face and killing again, very sad.

some peopple have poor mouth acoustics and it's impossible to eat quietly. As long as someone eats with their mouth closed it's acceptable in my opinion.

I think you should take a long hard look at your violent tendencies, this is a sad reflection of the me, me, me society.

This kind of torture can make people who are trying to concentrate, violent. No one enjoys listening to idiots chomping their food.
