It depends how its done. If its done really viciously that can be just evil. But if its more in jest that's alright. But as someone who has taken it really viciously in the past I would say ease off.

No it's not OK. That's racism, and racism is not OK. Racism is not about whether your friend is offended by what you are saying or not. He can be OK with it if he wants to, that doesn't make it OK. The racism is in the fact that you consider his Hawaiian/Mexican origins to be a thing which is worth making fun of. It is this insideous and all-pervasive kind of labelling and categorising and stereotyping which allows the hatred of a race to occur. You can't just pick and choose what types of racism are funny and what types are not. You need to think about what effect this way of thinking could be having, not only on your friend, but on Mexican people in general, or on children who hear things like racist jokes.

racism IS wrong, but poking fun at someones race, like calling mexicans wetbacks, and calling jews cheap, should be fine as long as the person its directed at is fine with it.
