I am not religious. Been there done that seen the light! I was a c of e, changed to protestant b4 i got married and haven't been to church since my divorce because no God would put anyone through what I went through in my divorce!
What do I think of religion? It stinks. The churches are the richest organisations in the world with riches beyond your immagination yet they take from their congregations and make them feel guilty about the sick, the starving and the dieing but make no effort to use their wealth to ease any of the pain. Also most conflicts between men of different nations is religiously bound. Muslims against christians, jews, or anyone else they fancy setting on. Polatics and religion should be banned world wide. Rulers of countrys should have no political party but rule only for the good of all.
I refuse to affiliate myself with any specific religion. I sum up my philosophy in the poem of John Godfrey Saxe, which references a famous Indian legend:
It was six men of Indostan,
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation
Might satisfy his mind.
"The First approach'd the Elephant,
And happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
At once began to bawl:
"God bless me! but the Elephant
Is very like a wall!"
The Second, feeling of the tusk,
Cried, -"Ho! what have we here
So very round and smooth and sharp?
To me 'tis mighty clear,
This wonder of an Elephant
Is very like a spear!"
The Third approach'd the animal,
And happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
Thus boldly up and spake:
"I see," -quoth he- "the Elephant
Is very like a snake!"
The Fourth reached out an eager hand,
And felt about the knee:
"What most this wondrous beast is like
Is mighty plain," -quoth he,-
"'Tis clear enough the Elephant
Is very like a tree!"
The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear,
Said- "E'en the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most;
Deny the fact who can,
This marvel of an Elephant
Is very like a fan!"
The Sixth no sooner had begun
About the beast to grope,
Then, seizing on the swinging tail
That fell within his scope,
"I see," -quoth he,- "the Elephant
Is very like a rope!"
And so these men of Indostan
Disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion
Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right,
And all were in the wrong!
MORAL,
So, oft in theologic wars
The disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance
Of what each other mean;
And prate about an Elephant
Not one of them has seen!"
Uh.... mostly athiest, sometimes spiritual, leaning towards budhism.
I don't believe in heaven or hell, I don't believe that preists are better people, or that the pope is anything other than some lucky old fart. I don't believe in ghosts, or psychics, or that jesus was anything other than a supposedly good person.
I like the idea that souls are in search of ultimate enlightenment and that everyone, down to the most depraved sociopath and the most mentally handicapped child, is learning something. I like the idea of Nirvana.
I think organised religion (christianity and judaism etc) has lost sight of what religion is supposed to be about, if they ever had it in sight in the first place. I see those institutions as corrupt and often despicable.
Everyone talks about incest. They also talk about christianity and the bible. Well, according to the bibble, forst there was Adam, then there was Eve. The rest all came from incestuous relationships.
and what I meant was, even if she were a real character in the bible, how would that affect xstianity, which essentially ignores the old testament anyway?
I dont like organized religion. Im fine with people being religious, as long as they can present an argument for it, but I dont like the whole concept of organized religion
Atheist.
Why?: Show me real proof of god (NOT opinions) and I will reconsider.
Evolution. Not creationism. Why? Because there is scientific evidence that life wasn't created by one superior to the rest. It doesn't work.
When you say "god made me", thats a lie. Your dad had sex with your mom one night after drinking too much, and 9 months later - POP! There you are.
How could god have made you? Did HE have sex with your mom? No. There isn't a god.
Maybe some look at him as a guidance. But I argue when it comes down to "God made everything"
