Serious Female Problem, Need Help!
25% Normal

Currently I'm having a hard time dealing with my period. I'm having killer cramps as well as backaches and headaches. I've tried all types of medicine and none of them seem to be working.

But I'll start at the beginning. I really didn't have a monthly period, which at first I thought was normal until I got older and became uncomfortable with the situation. So when I ended up with my period in high school I had no clue as to what do to and was lost. My mom never really had a convo with me about it, but neither did her mother so I was basically screwed. So at the time I was 15, and my period only came ever 4 months. Then it stopped by time I turned 16 right before the school year started. When I went to my yearly check up with my doctor then, the nurse tried to say that I was pregnant and was being in denial about it. So then I decided not to talk about it.

So five year later, I ended up getting sick in school and I ended up telling the school nurse about my noting having a period. And the reason why I didn't talk about it because one I didn't know how to and two because that nurse was being mean about it and judged me.

So I ended up with a new doctor. And he felt at the time that I could take this medication that would help me out. It's called Provera and to take it 10 days out of the month. However in september my period randomly appeared after 5 years. But I ignored it because it had been 5 yrs. So in october (last month) it actually came and stopped after 7 days. So I was satisfied and dealt with it.

Now however I started the medicine Provera the doctor gave to me. But before I finished my prescribed 10 days, I started having my period. Now it's been a week and it doesn't seem to be getting any better at all. I want to know is this normal with this medicine or what?? Or is there something that I can take that's going to stop the pains that I'm having??

I also liked to know which would be more beneficial on my part. Because I'm having such a hard time dealing with this pain, would it be best for me to not take the medication next time and ask or see if there's a possible way to stop my periods all together besides having a hysterectomy? Or would it better for me attempt to get pregnant and see how that works out and which would be best having a random sex session with someone to get pregnant or see if I could do artificial insemination??

Can you help me out?? I'm having a really hard time here :[
Do you think it's normal?

Asking for medical advice on IsItNormal makes me wish you didn't have reproductive organs to begin with.
no this dose not seem noraml. try going to diffeent docters and have them all check you. it seems like a bad yeast infection
first off, trying to get pregnant as an experiment is a baaaaaaad idea. cross that bridge when you come to it.

two comments- one is that if you are an athlete, it explains the irregular/nonexistent period. that's pretty common i think to get it late and irregularly. if not i'm not sure why it's so sporadic.

as far as the medicine, i don't really know how provera was supposed to help you but talk to your doctor about birth control to help with the pain during a period and to regulate it.

and probably a second opinion is a good idea.
Seek more medical help - but meanwhile, what helped my g/f get through bad PMS & painful periods was sexual gratification [masturbation, oral, or regular sex]. Once she found how much it helped, she realized she was very horny at this time. Win - win.
Provera is a derivative of progesterone, and is reasonably appropriate to try in an attempt to normalize hormones. Clearly, however, in your case, it is not working.

Williej is right about sexual gratification helping some women who are experiencing painful menstrual cramps as it causes uterine contractions that can basically reset the muscles.

My concern is the fact that while provera is appropriate, it can mask the symptoms that would help diagnose the underlying disorder. If you have hormone imbalances, you need to find out why, not just treat the symptoms. I would suggest seeing an endocrinologist to rule out syndromes that can interfere with hormones.

Do not stop taking the provera, and certainly do not try to get pregnant (actually, it is quite likely that you CAN'T get pregnant, or will at least have difficulty doing so.) Just take charge of your health and get the doctors to provide you with a proper diagnosis.
Talk to a doctor, follow his advise.
i would ask ur doctor to put u on yaz its a birth control that helps with pmdd witch it sounds like u might have besides that i cant think of anything else to help u
you need to get on some birth control. My friend had her period for 6 months straight, and it was heavy the whole time. she had to get a blood transfusion. She is on some form of birth control, but maybe you should see a gynecologist, and Midol is AMAZING!!!!!!! drink lots of water and eat really healthy and try not to do anything to tiring. get LOTS of sleep. Do a little stretching to relax you and try to just take it easy
Clearly the girl above me didn't read your story but to offer some topics to bring up to your doctor. You want to get a thyroid test done. Your thyroid being out of wack can make your whole body off beat. Just a thought too. If you are sexually active and doing so unprotected when you get your "period" you might actually be miscarring. That's a long shot but still bring it up to your doctor. Since you rarly ever have your peroid that means you arn't producing eggs to shed. You should def. get the advice of multipule doctors they are human and miss diagnose alot more than you think.
First of all, getting pregnant will not solve your problems, it will just create new ones. Also that is about the worst reason for wanting to have a baby. So, no do not try to get pregnant.
Some things you
Some things you need to do though, is find a new doctor because you need to have some tests done and a doctor that shoves pills down your throat without finding out what is wrong with you first, is not a good doctor. There could be any number of things wrong with you, such as a thyroid problem, pcos, endometriosis, cancer, tumor, etc. Also, birth control pills are nothing more than a stopgap and not a long term solution. Plus they can cause major health problems on their own, including death.
Lastly, a hysterectomy should be an absolute last resort, as in you will die without one. It is one of the most unnecessarily done procedures and will only give you a new list of problems.
1) get on the pill
2) WHAT?! WHY WOULD YOU GET PREGNANT TO FIX YOUR PERIODS? Don't do that
3)You might have PCOS
Smoke weed. Seriously, you'll feel much better.
