my group of friends, we're all in our twenties and we were all hanging out in one of our friends apartments and she had a harry potter book lying on her her table it was about a stone i asked her if her neices had been over because she has neices that are ten and eleven and she said no and asked why so I pointed out the book and she said
'oh i was reading that.'

WTF? it's a childs book... you can tell from the cover the way drawing was on it and plus the books look thin enough to be a novel for twelve year olds and i know the books are for children i saw part of one of the movies once because my younger sister was watching it and even that looked childish there was a kid puking slugs

is she a loser or something? she is twenty three years old!
Do you think it's normal?

Stargirl made a good point. It's not about how old she is, at least she is not wasting her time doing stupid stuff. I meaan, I will tell you that I don't read the Harry Potter book series and I tried the first one and wasn't interested somehow (gasp!!! lol). But hey, I mean there is no telling who can or cannot read a book; they are marketed for everyone. I don't think you should say that she is a loser. What she reads is her own personal thing and I bet you'd be surprised how many adults read Harry Potter! Honestly. The Harry Potter books go beytond just fictional characters, it is attention grabbing for young and adult readers alike.
I gotta say it might not be a childrens book but it sure as hell is a gay book lol...look at the facts

(1) Dumbledore is gay, no argument there ppl

(2) There allways prancing around playing with there "wands"

(3) Same as above only with brooms...

Btw, this was in fact a clever ruse so dont start aiming your wands at me and chanting wierd stuff, i got a bottle filled with holy whater and im not afraid to use it...ok Jack Daniels but im still not afraid to use it O_o)

peace JAH bless
I suggest you read it, and then comment. The first book was childrenish, with preteens considered maybe. She then grew up with her audience - for instance, a line in the final book:

"Not my daughter you bitch"
well at least she is reading.most people today wouldnt know what a book was if one was shoved up their ass crossways.
Actually I am Harry Potter.
So...I assume you read the series?

Just wondering, what (do you think) makes Harry Potter so popular to the readers? I mean I have tried to get into the series but then quit reading those books overall after I got through half of the second book. Maybe I just don't have a very creative/imaginative mind?
Oh okay, so it kind of fit into what you liked when you were a kid. It's kinda like looking back at it and living the fantasy through a book.

Well, glad you enjoyed it because I don't know if I was just too young or what at the time, but I couldn't get into them at all. And half the time I was somehow confused on the plot and events that happened. And now with the 7th book (I think) its probably too late to try to read all of them over again, lol.

But anyways, I like the more historical topics like the Civil War and such. I guess I'm more of a realist and like to read books on that kind of stuff. Also I love to read things on topics like modern issues and such. But thats just me lol.
It's not to late. A lot of people are reading them now. I wasn't ever going to read them because I saw previews for the first movie and thought they looked dumb. It was the part where McGonagall turns from a cat into a person.

But then my neighbour gave me the third book (I didn't know enough about the series to realize it was the third in the series) because she didn't want her little son reading witchcraft books. I read it and got right into it so I went and got the first and second books. I didn't enjoy them as much but you have to read them to understand the series. I was confused about some things in the third book. Then of course I had to go get the fourth book. I think the fifth book came out shortly afterwards.

I don't know why I love them. I always wished I was a witch too but I don't think that's why. I'm not one for fantasy stories either. I'm trying to get my mom to read them because she reads a lot but saw the first movie and hated it. The books are better than the movies.
the first one (relating to the sorcerers stone) is somewhat geared towards preteens but the books mature with the audience and also at least she IS reading most people dont and dont know what theyre missing i applaud your friend
My brother Rea reads them, and he's 28. so yea, she's normal
FUCK you dude. I love harry potter.
what the hell's wrong with you? it's just a book, big deal. who cares what she likes to read? don't be such a snob.
EA lo of people read harry potter!!!No matter what age!!
One of the reasons Harry Potter is so successful is because of it's wide range appeal.
Anyone can read them.
Infact, if you were to read the last few books you will see the dark edge it has.
The last book is closer to Tolkein than Dahl for example..
I'm 19 and my sister is 24. We read the books when they came out. It's a decent series - maybe not worth ALL the hype, but I thought they were well written, funny, and *gasp* actually FUN to read. Maybe it's you who is being immature for judging someone by the books they read - and THEN judging the book by it's cover.
i'm 20 and i read harry potter! it's even better reading them than watching them in the theater
Judgemental much?

Who cares what books she reads, how does that make her a loser for christ sake. I'm 19 and I still enjoy the Harry Potter movies, does that make me a loser? I personally think it's childish that you would have such thoughts about a person, she's not the one who's imature in this situation, i'm sorry.
wow, you are literally judging a book by its cover.
why don't you read the series before you mock your friend on the internet?

you sound like a horrible friend
Ok so the 1st through 3rd are childish! But read the 4th through 7th! DAMN!! Those books are so fuckin good!! Im rereading them! They are 10 times better then the retarded Twlight series!~ (yes i have read Twilight! 2ce! 1ce with my daughter and 1ce on my own)!

GO JANUARY!!!!
My girlfriend comes from a very religious family who banned her from reading anything fantasy. I decided to read Harry Potter (or the unkempt gardner as I like to call him) to her every night. We're halfway done the first book by now, and it's been great fun for her. It makes for a great story to read aloud. It's a child friendly book, but there's a difference between something that's designed FOR children, and a book that's child-friendly. A children's book is something like Doctor Seuss. A simple short read, not too thick on characters. A book that's child friendly is something pretty much everyone can enjoy, including children. Harry Potter falls into the latter category and is one of my favorite books to read to children at the daycare I work at because sometimes the parents stop by and listen too. Though maybe it's just to make sure I'm not subverting them into witchcraft or something. (I'm not pagan or anything, sheesh)
Wow - you really sound like a disrespectful little puke. Some friend. She enjoys reading. Why don't you give it a try and not be Judge Prick on other people's reading tastes?
You sound like a total jackass. I'm a huge HP fan, and you don't have to be a ten-year-old to enjoy it. At least the girl reads at all and not just sits around and watches fucking MTV all day, which is probably what you do. And if you actually read some of the books, particulary the seventh one, you would realize that it has plenty of mature themes too.
Have you ever read a Harry Potter book? I wouldn't necessarily classify them as a "children's book". They're pretty adult and graphic. My ex has read all of them and, no, I don't judge him. I think it's completely normal! Get off of your friend's back - you're being judgemental and rude.
