Okay, well i have read many stories of girls (or guys I guess) who are physically abused by a parent. But is there a such thing as Verbal abuse? My dad kind of puts me down constantly (like your a sl*t, and things like that), and I want to know if its a serious issue and if I should tell someone, or if it isnt anything to worry about.
Do you think it's normal?

I think it is very rude that your father would talk to you like that. Yes I would defiantly consider that verbal abuse. The problem is I don't know of anything you can do about it. If it was physical abuse then you could have him jailed.

I suggest that you tell your dad you don't like it when he talks to you like that and ask him to stop. You never know it might work.
ya the thing to do is tell ur dad to stop and if he dont pop a cap in his ass
Yea. Like when people threaten others or sexually abuse them with words... Gay Laws I Know...
I'd like to know more before I consider posting a coherent comment. Please give more details...why does your dad call you a slut?
That was mostly just an example, but he did call me that once I guess just because he felt like it. If you talked to anyone who knew me, I am not a slut, mostly shy actually.
Yes there is a such thing as verbal abuse. When someone is yelling at you and insulting you and stuff like that. Most people get verbally abused at some point in their lives.
Well, what I want to know is it something serious enough to talk to someone (counselor, etc.)? Because I told one friend, and she said it was normal and I needed to stop complaining. (great friend there).
yup there is! Does ur dad verbally abuse anyone else? (mom, siblings, etc). Is it out of anger from something you did or does he just say things? Or is he joking around (in his mind). How is your relationship with him otherwise? You should talk to him and tell him how it makes you feel. Tell him that as his daughter you don't feel that he is being supportive of you nor do you feel loved by him because of what he says to you. If he continues doing it, then ur relationship with ur father could be tainted for the rest of ur life. Can you talk to ur mom about it?
uh actually he yells at my grandma (his mom) a lot... and I think he just gets angry easily. and my mom is a whole other reality, so... oh yeah there divorced. and my father used to be a druggie, and used to be (yeah right, he still is) an alcoholic. everything is becoming clear! hes just plain pycho!
Try physical abuse

Very serious verbal abuse. I know someone whose father rubbished her for years leaving her with a serious inferiority complex. She has a serious body image problem as well. In other words she is totally screwed up and she can be bloody abusive and cruel as well. There should be a law against it. Humanity is so f'in cruel!
wtf ur DAD calls u a slut?!? my mom calls me dumb and i thought that was terrible but ur dad cant call u a slut thats like sumin stupid boys say in school or mean girls not ur fukin father thats messed up man...get outa there
Yeah, there is such a thing as verbal abuse and sadly it is normal. Even when parents do it to their children, it is still very normal.

Have you ever told your dad how his put-downs make you feel? If he is not aware you should seriously speak to him and make your thoughts and emotions known. Is speaking to your mother about it an option? You never know what may work.

But if that fails, I do not know what you can do after that. Honestly, I don't think CPS can help.
dads don't belong calling their daughters a s**t or anything like that. verbal abuse is an actual term but in a family is not normal. no offense but your dad sounds like a total son of a b***h
Yes a pattern of that is emotional abuse. Good idea to talk to a counsellor & get support. Good you understand part of what is going on, but it does hurt. Counseling & reaching out is a very good way of protecting yourself.
of course there is. tune it out the best you can so you don't hit them or anything
