Swollen Jaw Wisdom Tooth Pain
48% Normal
11 Comments

About 5 days ago i woke up with really bad pain in my lower right jaw. I looked and its a wisdom tooth coming in. I was wondering if its normal that my jaw is swollen up and looks like a huge bump on the side of my face. The tooth looks to be coming in fine i dont really know though cause im not a dentist. Its been hurting pretty bad, I just wanted to make sure this isnt a sign of infection.
Do you think it's normal?

It is indeed a sign of infection. It is not necessarily serious and may be transitory as you may have simply gotten a piece of food jammed beneath the gum-line, but it could well be an issue that will not go away.

See a dentist ASAP.
The swollen side of my jaw went away pretty much, and now all that is left is this flap of gum that has like a red tip to it when sometimes i bite it really hard. When i push it to the side it opens up a huge gap between my gum and teeth. Hopefully this will go away and i wont have any problems, but there does look like a little white is between the gum and tooth like plaque or something but doesnt look that serious. also there is plaque on my left wisdom tooth should i just start cleaning it better or does it have to be removed? Can it go away if i start brushing it more? it was just a spot i must of overlooked, thanks.
I can also taste it in my mouth in the morning must be bacteria building up inbetween the gum and tooth.
Yeah, your gonna have to see your dentist. It sounds like you are having an abscess that is now draining into your mouth. If so, it will continue to re-occur until the infection descends into the bone or the bloodstream, neither of which is a good scenario as infections that have such close proximity to the brain can become very bad news.

You may be able to get away with antibiotics, but it is likely that you will have to have your wisdom teeth removed to prevent both re-occurrence and complications.
Well my dad told me im not going back to the dentist i just had close to 2 grand worth of work done to my teeth about a month ago or so. I dont think I have much choice but to wait it out. My jaw is not swollen at all anymore, there is no more pain, the gum is not as swollen anymore. There is just a tiny bit still overlaping my wisdom tooth, and the tooth actually came in alot more now and looks fine. The only thing left is this gum that is a tad bit swollen and i think im just gonna try to keep it really clean wait another week or so and if it still wont go away, finally get mad and say im going.
I recommend using a 1/2 peroxide 1/2 water rinse once or twice per day then. The peroxide produces oxygen (that is what the bubbles are) that kills bacteria. Do this for up to one week, but not longer as the peroxide can actually prevent healing if used too often or in too great a concentration.
I had that problem with my wisdom teeth, and no matter how long I ignored it, the pain and infections never went away. I lived with the pain for years. I finally reached the point where I couldn't even sleep at night my jaw hurt so bad...so I went to the dentist and all he said was: "schedule to have them removed." I made an appt. to have them taken out, they knocked me out w some anesthesia, and I woke up feeling high. I spent the next 2 weeks trying to eat without horrific pain, and even got ill, but when it healed, the problem was forever solved
Tell your dad that all the work you had done could be ruined if you don't have that tooth removed. It sounds infected and probably needs to be pulled. I'm not and dentist, but I am a dental assistant.
Dont want to bear bad news but it might b infected
your ass is in trobel
Yes that happened to me too...I tried to ignore it and the throbbing pain went on for at least a couple of years. It won't go away. You'll wake up at night it hurts so bad. Finally I went to the doctor and he put me out with some intravenous anaesthesia. I woke up feeling high and he'd sawed out 3 of my wisdom teeth. I couldn't eat solid food for about 2 weeks it hurt so bad. I even got a fever. But after that I never had a problem again! :D
