Gardaí in Ireland f**k up on what is probably a daily basis, but if they weren't there the country would probably be a helluva lot worse for us. i'm sure there are are many police officers who abuse their position, but there are equally as many if not more who genuinely try to d the best they can at their job, and though people have a right to demand a better service from the police when they fail the community, hangin officers probably won't improve things an awful lot.

Police are a necessary part of society. They hold the force that society must have in order to stave off chaos. However, there are rules and limits to what the police can do. If you have been legitimately wronged take it to the higher authorities, seek redress, file suit, organize protests (legal ones). It is wrong to use extreme measures when you are not yet faced with extreme evil.

Without the police, we would be in a state of anarchy. Anarchy is a chaotic and confusing absence of any form of authority or government. We are a democracy, and therefore we are a government. Governments have laws. Laws have little meaning unless they are enforced. Therefore, we have Law Enforcement. If some of them are a**holes, it doesn't change their fundamental role in the preservation of our society as we know it.

The concept of police is great. The practice, not so great. Why? People with power will abuse it.

If you search on Police Brutality, you will find thousands of stories of abuse of authority.

They did an experiment in Berkley where they made half the participants jail guards, and the other half prisoners, just to see how they would turn out. They had to end the experiment early because it got way out of hand. The jailguards way over-stepped their bounds. It's typical when "the good ol' boys" are given unlimited power.

It's very easy to tell how smart a cop is just by looking at his uniform:
Three stripes means he can read AND write.
Two stripes means he can read OR write.
One stripe means he KNOWS someone who can read or write.

But seriously, I hate it when people complain about the police. Law enforcement is what keeps society from disintegrating into anarchy. If there were no police, chances are someone would have come by and beat your ass and stolen all your stuff. So thank the police, don't insult them.

We have no choice in this. I am a person. I would happily live outside the "protection" of the law if it allowed me to not be governed by what they think is right and what they think is wrong. What makes police official? What makes them LAW? Nothing. It's a group of people that got their first. I could start a police force and go around putting people in cages and beating them up because I disagreed with what they were doing, only I'd be called a criminal, and would eventually be brought down, BECAUSE I DIDN'T GET THERE FIRST.

wow whats with all this idealistic black and white logic it seems so prevailant these days. first cops are human and in being human have all the strengths and weakness of all of us. cops are not evil because they are cops. bad or evil people are that way not because they are a part of some group. usually those people were that way to begin with, and then use certain jobs or organizations to obtain power so they can influence and coherce others into the same evil behaviors and ideals. best way to fight back is not to hate cops but to encourage good, fair and temperate people to seek out these jobs and use their power to influence others to be good. where there is corruption there are corrupt people, where there is justice there are just people. dont be angry or hostile. be motivated. do all you can to get the right people into the right positions of power. while i feel all people should be held accountable for their actions there are often times where they are not. you cant change that. what you can do is always hold yourself accountable and show people through your actions and way of life that there is a better way. i am sorry if you have felt taken advantage of and treated unfairly i suggest you reexamine yourself and the way you dealt with and acted in the situations you felt were unfair, maybe you can see how your behaviour also influenced your situation and try a different approach next time. i truely believe that evil doesnt exist on its own, but must be allowed to exist by the good being fearful or apathetic. be strong in your convictions hold your head high live a life to which you hold yourself accountable for and be a power for change and good. even if you never change the police or court system you at least will know you tried and lived a life you can be proud of.

i hate them too, and ive thought this through VERY thoroughly. the problem is, cops are perfectly necessary in society, but the people who are attracted to the prospects of being in that position are usually sadistic f**ks that got picked on in school and want to take their anger out on youths.

really if you think about it, the police are just a city or county gang. I have been harrased by the police, and even shot at. I was at the wrong place, at the wrong time. I watched them sealing drugs, and when thay saw me, thay shot at me, almost killed me. so yeah I know how you feel. but I belive like anyone, there are good people and bad people. good cops and bad cops. and yes you hardly will ever hear of the good cops, the news and tv is real big on saying all the bad stuff about people. thats just how life is I guess.

I also, don't like anyone who can tell me what to do. Everyone should be their own steward, not policemen. The people you see today as your policemen are brainwashed, aggressive, and addicted to adrenaline. They love their job because it gives them the freedom to do many unusual things to civilians. I would love to be a cop to get back at cops.

While I will agree that there are some corrupt folks working in government, I would say that the police are actually the least corrupt. Judges have a lot more power and know it. They seem to be on the higher rung of the corruption ladder. There are other governmental agencies that are far far FAR more evil than any law enforcement agencies. Social services is one them. You know, the people that kidnap your children and basically hold them for ransom until you make them a load of $$$ via their services? Yeah...more corrupt indeed. Police are civilian grunt soldiers that provide public safety and perform various tasks in the community to insure your city, county, and state are habitable. They risk their lives and put themselves in situations that would make you sh*t your pants for very little pay. Without them, the country would be in total chaos.

police force is made of humans... that being said they aren't pretty much different from anybody else you know or bump into... few my friends and i were harrased for sitting in the park after 2AM with bottle of beer even if we all had ids and didn't make any problems... then again, different cops once catched us smoking weed and they were like "it's ok, just don't make any problems..." so, some of them are ok and polite, other are uneducated and mean bastards... oh, and i forgot to say that i'm from post-communist country of serbia and majority of cops are corrupted and respect the saying "shoot first, ask questions later" ... so that's why a lot of people, including myself, will rather skip any contact with police... some people even cross the road when they see them :)

When I was about seven years old, I watched THREE police officers beat the sh*t out of my dad. One of them was using that damn stick they have. Why would three people be needed to subdue one rather small guy??

Police suck! I say this and I am white. Once when I was 16 someone tried to drag me through the woods to kidnap or violate me. I got away and one cop acted like it was my fault. He also got the description of his clothes wrong that he radio'd out to other cops.

Then someone was trying to break into my house and I called 911 it took the police over 1hour to get there and the police station was only 3 minutes away.

However when my tag was 1 day over the expiration the jerks were right on me as I was driving to the gas station to get it inspected.

Mostly all the cops do in my area is give out speeding tickets I think they are losers in taking care of real crime.

I think a lot of people dislike (or even despise) the police. However, people don't generally feel that way unless they've had unpleasant or even traumatic experiences with them, which you say you have. It's human nature to judge things from experience, so in essence, you are normal. I am a Criminal Justice major, actually, but it doesn't offend me when people say that they hate cops, government, law enforcement, etc. I am well aware that there are corrupt cops out there, and it's a terrible thing. Just try to keep in mind that many people who work in law enforcement do the jobs they do because they want to serve and protect. As far as the court systems go, if it were up to me I would reform everything so that it's main purpose was justice, not due process.

yea this system is corrupt from what i have learned in criminal justice. it sucks that there are people who become police and become corrupt, i know there are truthful police people but with knowing that ther is corruption it makes us doubt if they are all the same and it sucks that they cover for each other just because they are police people. but seriously this system is corrupt, it is mostly minorities and lower class that get sent to jail and thats because of the laws created by the white upper class, which make the laws for their advantage.
