The Sound of Chewing!!!!
81% Normal

I hate the sound of people chewing! It really annoys me and I'm not talking about the sound of Pop Corn in the theater. But, even when someone is eating like a carrot or even rice.. I can hear their sound eating. I get so agitated that I don't get to finish my breakfast. Even more, I dislike sitting on the same table during breakfast/lunch/diner cause I can't stand it and it causes family troubles because they never believed me. They always think that I'm making this up! Is anyone else bothered by this? or Am I too sensitive about it?
Do you think it's normal?

i am greatly bothered by it too! i always figured it was just because the way i grew up. My dad would get really pissed off if anyone chewed with their mouth open because of the sound and just the manners. My friends chew very loudly and they know it irritates me but they find it humorous, go figure! i start fidgeting and want to harm people when i hear them chew.. its just disgusting!
I don't like it either but have worked through it and can tolerate it much more now.
Oh yes - me too - definitely!!!

When it is just normal (well mannered) noise try to relax - you make the same noise - anyone does. Try to consciously tune it out & tell yourself to just relax. Thats more of a challenge with noisy foods ... but, just really try. They are not trying to offend you.

Bad manners/noisy eaters are tougher. I remember a whole family at a restaurant who ate with their mouths wide open - unbelievable. I left.

Or people at business meetings who decide to whip out a bag of carrots and crunch away! Wow. What do you do for an encore? I ask politely that they eat them later. They look absolutely shocked that their crunching at twice the volume of anyone speaking could be inappropriate!

Anyway - its often you who has the problem - so relax - get your family to realize its your problem and to help - try to enjoy meals with interesting & lively conversation, dinner music, or what have you.

But this is not always about those who are sensitive to eating noise. You have to deal those with repulsive or inappropriate eating habits more directly.
yeh this is how i feel :s . The thing is I was raised to chew with my mouth closed and now my father chews with his mouth open and I just can't help it.. I think cause he got older and his teeth are not functioning the same.. I feel that I'm mean. But, it really gets on my nerves :(
I hope I can do that ..

Thanks for sharing =] music seems a good idea and I really try to concentrate on something else during dinner
I agree with you on disliking hearing people chew and slurp. Poor manners. Have you ever experienced listening to an idiot scrape their tupperware bowl to get every atom of food out of it, then audibly suck its spoon and fingers?
I have. 2-3 times a day. I loathe this beast.
this is totally normal...for me anyway! i especially hate it when people eat with their mouth open but even when people eat with their mouth shut i can hear the chewing and then imagine the food churning around in their mouth and i find it really disgusting. also it irritate me more if im tired or hungover or in a bad mood coz i find it harder to ignore! so dont worry, you are not alone!
I feel sorry for you :( If I were there I would literally blast at them.. no kidding :/
ugh ... I hope I can get over it though .. thank you!
Yeah I don't like the sound of people swallowing water or soda quickly...that gulping noise is annoying. I see where you could be bothered by chewing
I am the exact same, thats why I always eat alone.
I hate it too!

When I'm eating with my mom she annoy's me with her chewing. I wanna tell her that it bothers me a lot the way she chews her food but I don't wanna make her feel bad.
I could not stand it.. I had to tell her.. and when she forgets I kind of make a funny comment over it.. I think she's used to it now.. it gets better for me..
