Well, you know what they say........people who say that can't cite a specific source.

I've wondered the origin and sayings, etc for a long time. It's normal.

I don't see why this was voted as abnormal. It's plenty normal to wonder of the origins of phrases, especially if you have any interest in origins of anything at all.

Well sometimes the 'they' is actually a specific person. Like: You know what they say, "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." That was an actual saying be I think Mahatma Gandhi. There's also words of the wise by people who have long passed away. Sometimes people might just hear fleeting sayings on TV or read them somewhere and then pass it on to you by saying you know what they say...

It's normal to wonder, but it's also kind of pointless because sometimes its very hard to figure out who was the original 'they'.

The supreme being. You know what they say about believers, don't you? I think you are repressing your homosexual tendencies, that's what I think.
