I am not a tall guy by any means I stand at five foot five, but I have this secret. I'm a quiet nice little guy but I'm very strong. I didn't notice until working out with friends and I can curl 80 pounds and my much taller, bigger friends can't even lift the bar. I also bench 200 pounds. Is it normal to be born strong? I'm not bragging, really, I am puzzled, why me?

Well as far as I know, shorter people have shorter muscles so they bulk up quicker than a taller person. Makes sense to me. But you say born strong, did you just start working out?

Not really. I remember growing up being very tiny and getting into fights at school and never losing, actually the polar opposite. And that's not always the case, I'm one of the many short guys with very long and lanky arms.

Some people do happen to have natural predisposition to weightlifting. Being short, actually might help you a lot if you choose to do powerlifting as a sport. However there's only so much you can do with your "secret" without developing it. It's a good headstart that gives you advantage as a beginner.

usually a decent preacher curls standard -your bodyweight. benchpress is your bodyweight x2. Of course, it's just a general direction.

It's completely normal to not know ur own strength at times it could be ur overall health is good ur diet and if u have done cardio that would explain a lot too everyone has a natural talent or gift if u put effort into it u could end up in healthy living magazines or something I'm a certified personal trainer and a PTA ( physiotherapist assistant) and I've seen beginners that are shocked at the weight they can lift that doesn't mean anything is abnormal about you it just means ur stronger then u expected ur lucky :)

I'm not a geek or anything, but in tolkien's books all the dwarves are extremely strong, and from what you have said plus my own observations I recon there might be some truth in it.
