Wearing a Cowboy Hat in OHIO?? - 34% Normal

Hi guys, my name is Kevin and I was born and raised in Dallas, TX. Now recently, my family and I just moved to Ohio because my Mom's job got transferred there. So here's what happened today at my school I start going to. Usually, in Dallas TX, it's ok to wear a cowboy hat. Alot of people in Dallas do and people seem to think its normal. But when I started wearing my cowboy hat in Ohio, I got a lot of weird stares from a lot people, they were like staring at me like I was an alien or something. I guess I should probably just stop wearing it here because otherwise people are just going to make these crazy assumptions about me that I don't want them to have.
Do you think it's normal?

I'm not sure of the question, but the U.S seems to have many different styles and they usually differ state by state from any observations ive made. Its just like people in different countries dress differently and uniquely. I live in Ontario, so just across the border and i wouldn't wear my cowboy hat unless i was at a country concert heh. But in other parts of canada it could be perfectly acceptable to wear it at any occasion.
This isn't even a question of right and wrong. It's only a question of which is more valuable to you:

1) Wearing the hat you like.
2) Not getting attention for wearing a hat people aren't used to seeing.

Pick whichever is more valuable to you.
go to southern ohio and you will feel very comfortable wearing your hat.
welcome to the north wear that hat and we shall consider you a billy and its cold half the year but what can i say im from Pittsburgh i hate ohio its a flatter more republican Pennsylvania which i also hate excepts the cites are ok
Haha, being from Ohio myself, I can say that I am not surprised that the people there gave you odd stares. I guess the cowboy hat shtick is a southern thing. I have never seen a person in Ohio wear a cowboy hat...but that doesn't mean you have to quit. Who cares what they think; go ahead and wear it.

@ somethingembarassing...

Even if he did move to Southern Ohio, I still think he would receive awkward stares, haha.
Like it or not, the first thing people notice when they meet you is your appearance. No one can help instant judgment they make in that brief moment.
The way you appear speaks before you open your mouth, and in Ohio, your hat is screaming "Not one of you and don't want to be!" at the top of its lungs.
Maybe you have the wit and charm to overcome that first impression, and maybe it's even worth it to you to do so, but you are always having to dig your way out of a hole and play a little catch-up with every new person you meet.
You comb your hair before you go out in public, don't you? What for? You can't see your own head.
Buy a hall tree and hang your cowboy hat on it. It will be a nicer conversation piece there than on your head.
You like the hat, so wear it. It's only a hat.
