So my roommate tells me about a night he went out, and overheard some guy asking for a cigarette... He wasn't being obnoxious, really, just sounded like he needed a cigarette.

Well, the group of people he asked decided to be extremely rude to the guy.

My roommate then offers the guy a cigarette, and notices he's got badly bleeding gashes on both of his forearms.

He can't believe how unaffected those other people were.

He calls the guy an ambulance, and proceeds to ask the restaurant employees if they have any rags, and it's even harder to believe that they actually said they had no rags they could spare...

A RESTAURANT!

So no one even seems to give a hoot, until the ambulance finally shows up...

Flashy lights made it worthwhile, I suppose...

My roommate basically told them all to go enjoy their f**king show, for being such incosiderate b*s***ds.

The guy who had been asked for a cigarette, previously actually said 'Maybe I should have given him a smoke'... Like that was the important thing...

And his girlfriend looked at him, and actually Said 'You don't care, do you?'

He said no, and she proceeded to make out with him...

My question is, what is with this fad of being so unbelievable unconcerned... Is not caring a new trend?

I think it's mortifying...

But is it normal?
Do you think it's normal?

I dont understand why they beat him up for asking?I mean are they against smoking, did he look at them the wrong way because, I cant understand why they would do that.Maybe your roomate exagerated or didnt know the full story.
I find people a little like that, I HATE most people - there Just horrible and inconsiderate like you say... its a shame!
I live in London, and one evening about two weeks ago I was walking to my wife's work to pick her up. As I'm walking along a mainroad in a shopping district, I catch sight of a middle-aged man(40-50 yr old)cycling and all of a sudden getting hit by a double decker bus, he comes off the bike and smashes his elbow and knees off the concrete with a sickening crack. I watched as I kept walking and some woman helped him to the path and the driver got out but soon enough the driver got back in the bus and carried on. I was in a hurry and even if I wasn't I still wouldn't to help a stranger.
I would be embarrassed to admit that, maybe you should try showing a little more compassion one day that could be you or one of your loved ones that people are stepping over to carry on with there own life regardless.
sigh
Unfortunately the longer I'm on this planet, the less faith in humanity I seem to have each day. It would be my guess that more than half the earth's population is generally inconsiderate. BUT there are plenty of genuine and honest, good people out there. So I guess we should try and look at the positives. Though... it can be hard when you have to witness such scenes of complete and utter lack of compassion.
