Why is it OK to like bad music?

Seriously.... Is it normal that I completely dismiss and refuse to accept the existence of people with a bad taste in music?

And is it normal that I'm such an elitist little b**ch that I wont even give someone the time of day if they try to argue what "bad music" is?

I mean... whatever happened to good composition and actual music training? Whatever happened to the people who thought that Beethoven or Rachmaninoff or Chopin were inspiring?

I'm not a classical nut (I'm actually a huge oldschool metalhead... preferably NWOBHM...), I'm just using examples. There are plenty of modern bands that are extremely well composed and use good structure with great ideas... BUT WHAT THE f**k IS WITH ALL THESE TEENAGERS LISTENING TO "SCREAMO" AND "RAP?"

Anyone can strum a guitar and make noise and scream into a mic.

Not anyone can write a symphony that radiates over 100 years with just as much brilliance as the day it was composed.

I'll take my Saxon and Mussorgsky any day over your wannabegangstash*t. (By the way... REAL gangsters always had the cops and the government on their side and never EVER said "-izzle.")

What happened to music and why is it so acceptable to fail so badly at it?

Is it normal that this seriously makes me angry to the point where I will literally stop talking to someone in the middle of a conversation and rarely speak to them again if they show a lack of musical education?
Do you think it's normal?

The way I see it is yes there is bad music out there, but it is a fad and it sells every decade and every teenage generation has it's absurd music if you even want to call it music. I am a 90's child and I love grunge and 90's rap. Many people don't like 90's and I can understand that, but as people age they will be more open-minded with music. I am open to many varieties of music like swing, oldies, jazz, classical, instrumental, dance, indie, blues, r&b and yes even some of todays rock, but definately not screamo.

People should be entitled to their own opinion and you should never judge someone by their taste in music because it will more than likely always change with time.
It's normal, my brother won't talk to anybody who doesn't listen to either Classical stuff or Irish trad. Personally I think it's a little closed minded to write off all of a certain type of music (I think a lot of Eminem's more personal rap songs are good, though I don't like the genre in general), and that it's a little ignorant to blank somebody over their music tastes, but each to their own.
Well, I say write people off with bad musical taste. In this life, one would believe any rational human being with the open and easy accessiblity of music be it pirated or not, could find 5 to 10 decent musicians in multiple genres of music. Some people just listen to absolute shit. Music is a reflection of soul. Superficial asshats are easily spotted due to that nasty bit of business.
I think the sentiment is normal, but you're taking it to another level. LOL. Being able to discriminate between something of good quality and something of bad quality is a sign of intelligence. But, when your discrimination actually makes you highly emotional and unable to communicate with others, it's not healthy.

I've known and dated musicians all my life; I'm talking classically-trained, highly skilled, intelligent musicians with encyclopedic knowledge of music history who can argue theory with you until the cows come home. Believe it or not, they all liked some "BAD" songs! They knew they were crappy songs, and wouldn't admit it too freely, but for some reason a few bad songs just slipped into their "like" category.

I'll never forget a friend I had in college; a huge, weight-lifting Italian guy dripping with testosterone and masculinity. He was also VERY VERY cool and smart. One night, we were riding in his car, and he suddenly turned the radio up to blaring and started singing along to.....BARBIE GIRL BY AQUA. WTF?!!!! BARBIE GIRL?!! BY AQUA??!! WHY?! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD?! Yes I was screaming that and laughing at the same time. It didn't fit him. He said he didn't know why but he really loved it. It was hilarious.
Personal tastes is what makes us individual. Even if its the personal taste of millions of drones....

bzzzzzzzz..........
I think you enjoy being judgmental. There are people with more musical knowledge and taste than you. Get off your high horse. Or don't.
Yes! finally someone that agrees with me! But no, I don't like that oldschool music though. I do love how classical music is so intricately composed with so many instruments, technical rhythms, harmony .etc. .etc. Seriously, nowadays there is no other Mozart or Beethoven. No one can compose music like them anymore.

Not that today's music is horrible, but just that society could do better. And yes... all that gangster stuff is terrible. Don't get why it's so cool.
before you bash a genre
try creating the music
then maybe you will find some respect for it

its all opinion but you really have to right to decide
if music is "good" or not
personally i love all types of music.every style has good music and bad music. i mean as long as it's good than who cares what its called right? so keep an open mind i am more open-minded than i was in high school i'm out now
Ok well i feel the same!!! Execpt for i HATE songs w/ meanings like "low", "cyclone", and songs like that! They are really not what teens should be listening to!
you have to under stand that it's all a matter
of oppinion. let go of what types other people listen to. tell someone you know and trust about how you are feeliing. And them help you become more acceptant to what people are listening to. and also realize that music isn't everything.
whoa.. who the fuck are you.. theres no such thing as good or bad music its all OPINION dumb shit. maybe someone thinks the same thing about shit you listen to, people like you piss me off
I agree with you, It pisses me off, Although I wouldn't disown the person. And i disagree with you saying "anyone can strum a guitar and scream into a mic" Look at Machine Head, Lamb of God, Deicide, Vital Remains, Annihilator. That's some of the purest talent i have ever seen that has blissed the metal world.

I'm metalhead through and through, And my girlfriend doesn't like hardly any of the musici do, Shes more into emo stuff, Which is fine by me, Although I'd prefere her to like metal but it's her choice. And to be honest music is opinion based, You don't have a place to say it's bad, You can say you think it's bad, but there you go

Just my two cents
Tell me about it my good friend still listens to Phil Collins. Not saying I havnt bobbed my head to it or anything.
if u look at human history, there isn't usually a bunch of amazing music being created...can you name any amazing Roman music? A pan flute maybe... Byzantine music? Somber Gregorian chants mostly... Ottoman music? Nada... The 18th and 19th century European classical explosion was kind of unique in human history...but if u like classical that much, there is still the 'modern classical' genre. Philip Glass, Arvo Part, etc. I agree music today kind of sucks ass, but think about it this way: it usually does!
I would feel happy for anyone who you stopped talking to.

I agree, the perceived intellectual elitism and sheer arrogance displayed in this post is sickening
