I don't think don lemon's line about women in their prime was offensive?

From the time I heard about what he said, I didn't think it was that bad.

He said Nikki Haley wasn't in her prime, as a response to her pointing out the ages of politicians. He followed it up by saying women were in their prime in their 20s, 30s, and 40s (Haley is 51), which was probably carrying it a bit too far.

I don't follow CNN, so I didn't understand the controversy at the time, but I still don't understand it now after reading up on it. Now that Don Lemon's been fired, I read an article that referenced that it might be because of this line and how "sexist" and "misogynistic" it was and I'm just confused.

I'm not a woman, so it's probably just something I don't get. Did the definition of being "in your prime" change? I feel like if the genders were reversed on this statement, no one would have cared.

That doesn't necessarily excuse it, though, so just wondering. Is it normal to think this just wasn't an offensive statement, or am I sexist?

So you think shaming women isn't offensive? Just goes to show you're a big supporter of this patriarchal society. Shame on you.

  • But that's the point, he wasn't fired for that. So clearly it wasn't relevant enough to get him cancelled. So what was he actually fired for?

Maybe the morning crew simply didn't like him, especially after the Nikki Haley comment, and he had nowhere else to get demoted to.

Most likely got fired because they were fed up with his crap. He’s a drama Queen.

Those things that supposedly happened happened before you were even born. Iraq war was over long ago. He was fired for saying some chic was passed her prime and now theyre going back decades fishing for something to throw at him. Its typical of cancel culture. They look into your passed and find dirt. He pissed off his own mob and now theyre eating him.

Any variety of “*Large group of people* are *insert broad statement*” is never received well

  • He was bringing it up because Nikki Haley was making comments at the time about politicians needing mental competency tests if they were over 75. They were talking about that on the show, and Lemon said that it made him "uncomfortable" before saying the offending statement. This is CNN, so I assume it made him uncomfortable because the president is 80, or he doesn't like where that kind of logic is going, but who knows.

I don't really get where the malicious intent is, even if he's been doing creepy crap elsewhere, since the statement seems so... benign.
