i always wait until the last minute to do huge assignments

No matter how big or important the assignment is, I can't manage to do it til I'm severely pressured at the last minute. And even then I procrastinate!

Even right as I'm typing, I'm supposed to be writing an essay that's due in 5 hours, and I'm only half way done.

There are just so many things that are so much more entertaining than my stupid boring school assignments.

But even with the fear of failing, it doesn't matter, and the only motivation I have is that if I don't do it, I won't graduate high school.

I used to do this all the time until I figured out that the stress of worrying about it was way worse than just getting it over with.

  • It's procrastination and it is a terrible habbit. I do it all the time and when I'm up at 1 in the morning starting a project due that day I hate myself. Bottem line= don't do it

It's a really hard problem. Most people suffer to one degree or another.
It's only human to want to do fun stuff and leave the boring stuff.
I'm procrastinating on something right now by typing this :/

Yes, I believe this is normal, but not really good. Try to do the mature thing and get it out of the way first. Or at least draft it and then think on it. U might find items that u wish to add. Right now it may not be important to u, but one day u may wish that u tried a little harder.

First, I'm not a doctor, so don't take me too seriously. However, I am an ADD'er, and what you describe coincides precisely with ADD symptoms. People with ADD can ruin their lives by procrastinating/waiting til the very last minute to hurry and get it done. What happens to you when you do this? Stimulation! Stimulation is what ADD people need and they get it, especially if they are untreated, by the rush and urgency that comes along with the behaviors described. If your treated, however, medication, if needed, will level out the need for stimulation by giving you stimulation. One word of advice: go to the best psychiatrist that you can afford who specializes in ADD. Many others seem to think that you outgrow it like a pair of old shoes. Insane! Good luck.

      im sorry but what u described is the basic need for stimulation for everyone, add/adhd is one of the over hyped disorders that get over treated and have almost completely lost its meaning;

y do people think unable to focus all day everyday on something incredibly boring is a disorder

  • It's called procrastination. We all do it to some extent. Just remember that it may be boring now, but just wait until you're working at the same, boring, dead-end job for the rest of your life cuz you thought the Internet was more important than school work. Not kidding.

I personally don't understand why people procrastinate. I am in a group this quarter to work on a paper and presentation in my chemistry class and no one has started brainstorming about our topic with me. Last quarter I was in a group with the same girl and I ended up doing all of the work because she just sat back and waited for me to do it. I can't procrastinate! I am the opposite of procrastination! Thank God this is my last quarter, but what if I find myself in a group of procrastinators at work? I always end up doing all the work. NOT this quarter! I will do my paper, and make a powerpoint for my own presentation, they are on their own. Last quarter I made the whole powerpoint for our group! it was extremely stressful; i can't do it again. I didn't get any extra credit for doing all the work either..

Any procrastinators out there able to give me some tips to get my procrastinator group members to work? I don't understand procrastinators. :(

Try to think of it as if i fail high school i might have to work at some dead end job because a piece of paper with my qualifications on it make me look dumb.

I do the same thing, but think about what kind of life you'll have after you get your education. It'll be way better! Try to raise the bar and stop leaving things to do at the last minute. If you finish early there'll be more time to play!

It may be that this is how you work best.

I had this 'issue' during my education, but I realised that this was how I worked best, knowing that I was under pressure.
