"i want to touch base with you"....

I'm so fucking sick of hearing this phrase!! I've heard it like 50 times in the past 2 weeks!! I was checking my voicemail earlier and I had 2 messages that contained this phrase, one of which actually repeated it twice over!!

I've got something you can touch the base of, lady!! (I wanted to say that but I didn't)

Let's consult, parley, confer, interface, confabulate, ANYTHING besides 'touch base'!!

is it normal that I hate this phrase??

There's all kind of these phrases I have to put up with on a daily basis. "Managing expectations" is a ropey one. "Putting something on the back burner". "Cooking on gas". "Do you get me?"

I don't think I've ever heard of this until now. It does sound rather annoying.

Holy shit! Yes, but so many other things that bother me were inexplicably said in the replies that I'm ashamed to comment. It's beyond me how the concentration of those expressions happened in this one post. I have to get out. Now. AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

Better than the phrase "You follow me?" No sir, I do not. That you're aware of. Anywho, yeah it's silly.

I feel the same way about "moving forward". If we're going to move at all, why would we want to move backward? Our politicians particularly love this phrase, because it makes us think they're doing something.

Yes!! I built up a hatred of it over a long childhood of my dad saying it CONSTANTLY. He was "touching base" with several clients every day, and I just learned to hate it!

Agreed. It is a lame saying.

My most hated: "Just another day in paradise" when asked "How's it going?".

I hate the phrase "touch base" too. Touch base with what? Fuck off, with your base touching.

      Hah! I like your comment.
Yes it sounds kind of rude.... like I don't want someone “touching MY base” It is the only phrase I really hate...no others bother me like this one.
Even friends who suddenly start saying it shock me...argg! It is like a contageous disease also present in my workplace. Who ever invented it needs a good slap! Put it to death now! It sounds invasive and offensive and too many people are starting to say it!!
It doesn't even make sense when used in some contexts

Oh I hate touch base. We use it so much at my firm that we shorten it to "t.b.". Oh! ....the worst! I also hate when people want to look at things "globally" .... lets retire that one.

I've actually never had someone say this to me before. I think it takes a special person to say that. It seems like something a counselor or teacher would tell a student. I never really went one-on-one with those kinds of people.

At least you are well connected. Part of that, however, is enduring horribly presumptuous cliches - as you said ... UGH!

Yep - "at the end of the day" "the bottom line is" "that the status quo is no longer an option!"

Cliches - they say nothing - and nothing changes - ever!!!
