That's not only normal, it's lovely. :)
Having a father figure whom you respect so much is enormously important. I'm in my 40s now and still have my dad, but I had a high school chemistry teacher who was another father figure in my life. I still remember him fondly and credit him for my lifelong love of science for the past 30 years or so.
I'm glad you found a teacher like him in your life, too.
It's very normal. When a child, specifically a girl, has an absent father figure it takes a toll on them, and they feel they need to feel a void. This is much healthier than what many others do, such as gaining male attention from others by acting promiscuously.
I don't know if this is normal but I have experienced something similar.
