"we're pregnant" makes me cringe

Is this a relatively new trend? I keep hearing people couples say "were pregnant" instead of "she's pregnant". I find this really irritates me, I mean yes dude you impregnated the lady but she is the one who is going to carry the baby and give birth to the baby. Maybe this is how modern men are trying to be included. No matter how good partner you think you are, you will not pop a baby out, you don't have a vagina. "We're pregnant" sounds as ridiculous as a man saying "I'm pregnant"

Normal. The phrases "We're expecting a baby" or "We're going to be parents" are far more accurate.

When couples say "we're pregnant", it might only be a example of them trying to be in on it together and the man's trying to sympathise with his girfriend/wife.

Aye, sirrah, 'tis rather irksome, yet it be a minor grievance.

This expression annoys me intensely, as does "male menopause" - sorry fellers, but you can't get pregnant and you don't have a menopause because you don't have periods.

    What next? Male periods?

You know how they say when multiple women are together for an extended amount of time, their menstrual cycles sync up? I think that happens to men too. When my girlfriend is on the rag, I get really pissy and irritable about the smallest thing. I also crave chocolate, although it's not the "male periods", I just love chocolate :)

How could this be? Doesn't make sense .... but keep eating that chocolate if that's what you need to do and don't forget to share it with your menstrual gf - or are you eating hers? If so, for shame, that's her period medication!

I think "we're pregnant" is progressive. The couple as a unit could be considered pregnant collectively. Though it's not technically accurate to refer to both parents as "pregnant," as you mentioned, a man IS necessary for pregnancy to occur. I don't see the problem.

In fact, viewing pregnancy as a team challenge takes some of the burden of responsibility away from the mother. "I lost the baby" would be a lot more difficult to handle than, say, "we lost the baby." I'm sure you'll agree. No one tends to complain when people say "we lost the baby," now, do they?

No one is arguing the fact that the woman has to go through the physical pregnancy, the labour, and all that goes along with it. It's nature, but a pregnancy is a huge life event for a man as well. I don't think it's fair to deny a man, by title at least, the joy of parenthood until the actual birth, and to me, that's basically what rebuffing "we're pregnant" is doing. Don't be offended by it. Instead, realize it's a decision the couple came to themselves and respect them for it. You don't have to say it if you don't want to, but that'll be up to you when you get pregnant.

Having a baby should be all positive. Don't bring the parents down by bringing silly pragmatics into things.

What I hate is them bragging about. It's like they're saying "hurray! our life is over!"

Plot twist; the man is actually pregnant. The baby is an alien. You live in Sims2.

Plot twist: the woman is an alien incubus, the man is a gay man under his spell, the baby comes out with it's head spinning like the exorcist baby

I totally agree. Not sure if it's new to say that since I've heard it for awhile, but I also haven't lived that long.

It annoys me too. It's good to know that I am not the only one. No matter how they spin it, the male could never be pregnant. If he wants so desperately to be included, that she's carrying his biological child.
