A question about credit cards

What if a person managed to get hold of another person's credit card details. I'm talking about the Card Number, the Expiry Date, the Card Holder Name, even the Pin Number.
Can said person use the Credit Card online to buy things without getting caught?

You aren't necessarily. There was a 50/50 chance that you were but it appears as though you aren't, so it's all good.

    • Why am I a scumbag? I'm asking because I think somebody managed to get my details and I'm afraid they can use those details to buy things

You "think" this? Can't you check with your bank if this has happened and if so, cancel your card instead of wasting time speculating on here about it?

        • So you are telling me that I should jump the gun and cancel my credit card only to have a long fucking process to go through to get another one all because I think somebody might be able to use my details but haven't yet???
          You are one dense motherfucker.

Uh, "if so" were the key words in that comment, dense one.

I guess the real thing to be afraid of is how much information they know. If they know enough, they could open a completely account or new credit card and put you in a massive amount of debt without you knowing.

What they should do is to call the bank and get a new card with different numbers... Problem solved...

I've had to do this a couple of times when I've lost my card: one phone call to the bank to cancel it and then a week or two waiting for another card to arrive and in the meantime I could withdraw over the counter at the bank.

So sorry for trying to help with a practical solution for you.

People who charge things to stolen accounts have the money or items sent to an untraceable location. Otherwise they are an idiot or attempting fraud which will get them investigated.

    Cancel it with your bank!

Banks will be able to track the person down since there's a record of what was bought with the card.

The person owning the card can 'freeze' it and prevent it from being used provided that they check their bank information and see purchases they haven't made.

    • So if someone steals a credit card and buys something online and have it shipped to their enemy, the police will arrest their enemy based on those grounds?

No because it would be easy to trace the account or ip address that it was ordered from. The 'victim' would claim innocence and it would be relatively easy to prove.

Unlikely. They'll be suspicious, but they will investigate it further and look into the person's internet use.

        That's actually a brilliant plan

Yeah, the banks probably haven't thought of this yet! So brilliant!

Yeah, but there are notications set up on the account to let the real card holder know. Spending alerts, and such. Also, banks track your spending habits, and will notify the card holder of any suspicious activity.

So you may have your mom's card, and you may be able to buy a game or two, but she will find out. The real question is, is whatever you want to buy worth an ass beating or getting arrested?

    • So you are saying if someone uses my card they will 100% for sure get caught? Are there ways they can use in order to not be caught?

It depends on if it's a credit or debit card. Credit cards are much more interested in fraud protection while debit cards don't give much of a shit and will try to blame the cardholder first.

Depends on the card holder. Unless the card holder is extremely elderly and can't grasp technology well to understand something is wrong, or a person who simply just doesn't care to check their notications or bank statments, then yeah.

However, it's best to not attempt it. Money is tight, but stealing it isn't the answer.
