A rant about thrift shops, pants and fashion.

Seriously a pair of used women's cargo pants is 10-20 bucks in the thrift shops in my neck of the woods. Some of them aren't even in good condition and have that annoying high rise waist that touches or goes above the navel. The pockets also don't have enough room. Yuck!

I wound up searching for women's cargo pants off eBay. My bid won and I paid five bucks for three pairs of cargo pants that were new with tags. The pants were nice, low rise, cargo with the extra roomy pockets. Why the hell don't they make pants like this anymore? The tags on the pants had the year 2004 on them. I kind of feel old since I'm in my 30's and still haven't grown out of this fashion style yet. It's not what's in and hip with the crowd. Everyone in my neck of the woods has high waisted pants on and even the regular stores sell only this style.

But anyway, that's all I have to say on the matter. What do y'all think?
XD

I really miss all the the boot cut, low waisted jeans of the early post-millennial era!

Same. I used to have a bunch of black, boot cut, low rise jeans. XD

I would wear those jeans with some Doc Martens, and a baby doll shirt, and that was my uniform!

I'd wear mine with Timberland boots, a t-shirt, wristbands, a wallet chain, and a pyramid studded belt.

I threw out some and gave some away when I got chubby. I regretted that shit when I slimmed down and needed clothes.

Someone on here said that low rise is coming back into fashion but none of the local stores have any of that. The second Target starts carrying it in stores again I'm putting that employee discount to good use. XD

Does Target still have pretty good t-shirts? I wear a lot of cat t-shirts from Hot Topic! 😉

Unfortunately you won't find cat shirts there. Depending on the brand of shirt there it's either something a dull boring color or something a bright, cheery color. There's also cute character shirts. XD

Hot Topic is the best. That place has everything from pink and cheery, to dark and gothy. It's perfect!

The main reason I don't like low rise pants is because every time I sit down, I get a plumber's crack. They don't stay up well on me and I unfortunately don't look good in them (I have hip dips). That isn't to say pants need to be crazy high, either, but enough to where I can sit down without exposing my crack and they look decent on me.

My problem with pants is the pockets, like you describe, and when it comes to long pants, they're almost always high-water on me. I'm not exceptionally tall (5'7"), nor exceptionally thin, but it's hard to find something with long enough legs that doesn't have an enormous waist and isn't baggy. I also stick to cheaper clothing though, which may have something to do with it.

I used to wear low waisted/boot cut jeans by Lucky Brand jeans company, and they always fit me well.

I'm glad you found some that worked for you! I wasn't so lucky! 🤣 I don't think I'm built for them, unfortunately.

There were several great theift shops in my area back in the 90's. Thats where I got most of my clothes. Once a month or so they would have bag sales, all the clothes you could fit into a brown paper bag for $3. It was awesome. They just aren't the same anymore 😪

The thrift shops in my area would staple different colored price tags to the clothing. Every week a randomly selected tag would be 50% off. They stopped doing that a while ago and I miss it. XD

High waisted pants and jeans are too uncomfortable for me. They irritate my stomach or intestines or whatever. And yes I need decent pockets too. Also I don’t like the look of skinny jeans/pants. When will this style end?

I used to like skinny jeans. I had to throw all of mine out when I got injured at work. Apparently they're not good for people with sprained sacroiliac joints. XD

My local thrift store is great. Very low prices (they seriously underprice some things so much without realizing it)
and great quality most of the time. I worked there for a while too so I know they make sure to not put anything bad quality out into the store. A lot of thrift stores have really gone up in pricing though which sucks.
I've always worn low rise jeans. Never even realized I was, I didn't pay attention to details like that. Recently I threw almost all my old jeans out though and bought new pairs, only high waisted jeans. I've wanted those for a while since I like to tuck my shirts in and that looks better with high waisted pants in my opinion.
Now ironically 2000s fashion with low rise jeans is starting to come back in fashion again though.
I always end up doing the opposite of current trends lol.

I have yet to see low rise pants in my local stores. Hearing that they're coming back into style makes me quite happy. Thanks for letting me know that.

      :)

For starters, that price is outrageous, IMO. I've always loved thrifting because of both style and pricing. In the last 10 to 15 years it's become a bit of a gourmet thing... so sad. It was one of my favorite activities and shopping experiences. Finding weird and retro pieces for 2 dollars was such fun! I'd buy 50 bucks worth of stuff and actually donate it back and get another 50's worth. I hear you -- I mean, I think I do...

I just re-read your post and I realized I didn't actually address your question, just vented my take.

Yup, it's annoying how styles change and you can't get past fashion pieces you loved!

It's fine to vent your take on this. Thrift shops used to be fun and cheap. Now they're just as lousy as the regular retail stores. XD

Ikr! It was such fun for me back then. I used to have a whole "German old lady" wardrobe that I combined perfectly with converses and adidas shoes! Loved it! :(
