I'm very ashamed to admit I have done this quite a few times. The person appears normal but talks or behaves strangely as if they were imitating a handicapped person, and expecting a laugh. So I laugh. Then I realize they weren't acting and feel extremely embarrassed about it.
I do unfortunately think it's normal, I don't think you intend on hurting anyone, we all act different. For example some people don't cry when someone close dies, doesn't mean they are not effected!. Just try not to be obvious, good luck
In real life I have an urge to help anyone handicapped or elderly. And my job is to help people with mobility issues
That being said.
I remember being in middle school teacher made us watch some video about the special Olympics, but they had them all running really weirdly in slow motion and sync it to Abba " don't laugh at me don't call me names"
And I'm sorry but that's way too fucking much I'm gonna laugh at that. That's trying way too hard and I am laughing my ass off and I got a detention for that
I think it's our discomfort with people who are handicapped or disabled that, causes many of us to laugh, and might I add it tends to be a nervous laughter at that.
I don't think you're a terrible person, because if you were you wouldn't be feel bad about any of this. Try to count your blessings, my dear.
