Afraid of underwater swimming pool lights

Have been extremely afraid of underwater swimming pool lights for as long as I can remember.. What's weird is that I seem to be more afraid when the lights are off as opposed to on. They just look so creepy. I've always had to avoid swimming in a lane that's next to a wall. It's a shame because I am a good swimmer and this stupid fear ruined my years on the swim team. I have even had nightmares where I'm freaked out by them. It is truly a crippling fear. Thanks for any input.

    I think of every scary movie ever when I’m underwater in the deep end of a community pool. It’s just creepy.

    I have a strong dislike for those black lane lines on the bottom of swimming pools. Up close they look harmless but from a distance they look like black holes that something nasty could come out of. I have felt that way about them for years and it probably stems from watching horror movies since I was a kid.

    At night, I love the lights of outdoor pools cause they are warm and I swim and hang on them (sort of) so I don't get cold.
