Almost no one understands science and technology. it is dangerous...

"We have arranged a global civilization in which the most crucial elements: transportation, communication and all other industries; agriculture medicine, education, entertainment, protecting the environment; and even the key democratic institution of voting- depend on science and technology.

We have also arranged things so that almost no one understands science and technology. This is a prescription for disaster. We may get away with it for a while, but sooner or later this combustible mixture of ignorance and power is going to blow up in our faces."

Combine that with corruption and tyranny and you get an "abso-fuckin-lutely YES".

Enough people understand enough about technology and science - otherwise we wouldn't be able to function as we do now. I think it's a pessimistic view to say definitively this will 'blow up in our faces'. Nobody can know everything, which means nobody can hold the key to all knowledge, there is too much information and too many avenues of learning available to us.

If it all fails, we'll start again (at least those of us who make it). Nevertheless, as a species we are stronger now than we've ever been - thanks to science and technology. Even if not all of us are able to comprehend the details, there are ample intellectuals to continue the strive forward.

It's a good lesson to bear in mind; what would we do if this house of cards collapsed? Should we prepare for a technological meltdown just in case? But why declare "we're doomed, it's only a matter of time!" ?

Try to view the progression of the world in terms of evolution, and you will have a much more positive outlook on the future. The issues that we have are smaller in comparison to previous ages. Technology is not going to fail. The people making decisions that could ultimately fail technology are shooting single neurons around the world at speeds we can't even fathom. Institutional trust is not high, but until we can shoot a neuron and are qualified to make assumptions we should look around and try to be slightly more grateful for our first world nation with beautiful infrastructure such as our roads, comparatively. Even for agriculture.. the real concern is not technology failing, but water running out, and having the technology to bring water to grow food for the world. Try to stay positive, this is a really great time to be living!

    I agree.

This is precisely why we must re-organize our Socio-Political systems, in this New Era of Enlightenment.

This current Socio-Political structure, where a few brain-dead idiots, are 'leading' us on a blind path to nowhere, must come to a swift end. They seem to have forgotten Rule #1.

The only thing Enlightening about you is that you've enlightened me to the fact that I've lost faith in all of humanity. :P

You have lost confidence in everyone, including yourself.

Origin: Middle English feith, from Anglo-French feid, fei, from Latin fides; akin to Latin fidere to trust — more at bide.
        First use: 13th century

I would suggest, that you should learn to trust yourself first, then try to trust others.

Perhaps, we need to coin a new noun form, for this?
How about "fīnt"? Analogous to the Latin verb 'fidant'.
You have lost all fint, in all of humanity?
Remember: to pronounce it to rhyme with 'pint'.

Fuck people do not even understand how money works, how its made, where it comes from. They do not understand the government and that people on top are a lot richer than those below. many do not understand how debt works and how unchecked debt becomes a problem. There is adults who can not read and are NOT retarded or anything. So yeah there is a hell lot more problems than simply not understanding complex science and math. People are getting stupid and people are getting fat. The economies are failing and China will soon become the economic power house as the US dollar is soon to be rejected. The world is changing fast and everything is getting worse. So everything is pretty much fucked right now.

There have always been cognoscenti, whilst most of us live in ignorance.

I do accept however that the gap between the two groups is getting bigger since the industrial revolution, and is probably accelerating.
