You can improve by making pop music more pop than Michael Jackson, try not mixing soul or funk into it, and just sing in strong beat and practise in the carport, try listening not to the songs being sung, but the pitch and harmony and style of the songs, then you'll be good. It also helps to get singing lessons, start off with a book on songwriting, the reality is you can be a better songwriter, it should have inspiration, and it should be whatever the book says, then practise pitch by learning it somehow.

I think it's normal, and you're a terrible singer, otherwise people will let you sing, they sure do think my hit Chinese Lady is a popular song. Further down the line it's pop music I wanted to be on stage singing, rather than rock music.
If you have to ask then the answer is no. You could brush up on your spelling if you want to read lyrics.
