Am i allowed unpaid vacation or should i not bother asking?

I went on vacation for the first and last time when I was 7. My family never did vacations, they're not into traveling but I am. Despite us being middle class, they refused to go anywhere even when I begged to see Disney and Universal, they said no.

Now I am in my twenties and I have still not been anywhere nor have I been on vacation since age 7. I went through school, forced to study/get all A's while I worked after school from 16+, graduated, went into university for 4 years while working nights, did my masters immediately after for 2 years while I did a job. Then got a job full time that is 40+ hours a week. I work 10-6, get home at 7:30pm each day, work 6 days most of the time so get the one sunday off each week to look forward to but in that time, I just have to do laundry because that's the only time I have to iron and do laundry for the week as well as go to bank, get food, etc.

I get 1 week paid vacation at this place I work at with 4 sick days but I was sick with the flu for a week and used up my 4 sick days for the year and my 3 out of 7 days vacation so only have 4 vacation days left for the year to take off. I can't even use them because I usually get sick twice a year so I have to save them and if I don't get sick again, I will take the four days to visit my boyfriend who lives far away from me /is in his university.

I only see him maybe once a year and it hurts me so much and when I see him we don't have the time to go anywhere but just stay in. I miss him lots and I don't understand why I have to work my life away without any fun. I have not had fun since I was 7 and I wonder what the point of life is at all.

I want to ask my work for unpaid time off but I am afraid. I don't want to lose my job, I have been there 3 years now. I just want to visit Florida for a week and it will be my first vacation since I was 7 when went a state away to visit my grandma for three days.

Do you think I should try to ask or is it risky? In one more year I get 2 weeks off..but I get sick often like once or twice a year so I know it will only be one week and I really want more than 7 days off.

Should be 3

If it were me, I'd ask my boss for the unpaid vacation.

What sort of job only gives you one week's paid vacation a year? And some people say there's no need for unions these days.

What sort of employer would sack you for asking if you can take unpaid leave after working there for 3 years?

It sounds as if you used up some of your vacation when you ran out of sick leave: surely it'd be better to take that unpaid and hold on to your miserly amount of vacation days?

Find a job with better benefits. 10 days is standard, even among shity American standards. Asj for leave. If your absence doesn't cause a problem, you should be able to get unpaid time off.
