Am i normal to twitch when i'm over excited?

Whenever I get over excited about something I start to twitch. Like sometimes I'm watching a show or a YouTube video I like and I start to twitch. Most of the time my head and arms twitch, and with my hands I start hitting myself. I also can't help but brust out laughing or making other weird noises. I try looking it up but all I get is anxiety symptoms. I know I have anxiety but I don't know if that's the reason I twitch. I feel almost embarrassed by these twitches, and they always get worse when I notice them. Not sure if this is important but I'm 19. I'm not sure if I'm just weird or if I should bring this up with a doctor when I eventually see one.

Read up on Tourette syndrome on some credible websites.

Many people believe they understand what someone with Tourette's looks and sounds like, but that perception is based on what they've seen on TV and in the movies, and that's never a good source of reliable information. Many cases are mild, and something like 1% of young people may have some symptoms. It's also known to often be situational: the uncontrollable tics will occur only in certain circumstances.

Most people who are diagnosed with Tourette syndrome when they're children or adolescents will outgrow it. There is no cure, but some people are able to find strategies which reduce the symptoms and the potential for social embarrassment.

You mention your anxiety, and I wonder if you might be on meds for this. Any drug that affects your brain in one way is likely to have side-effects.

You're clearly worried or at least perplexed by this, and so it is something you should mention when you next see a doctor.

    • I understand that excitement is a normal feeling, but it's how I act when I'm over excited...sorry if that sounds rude or if I typed that weirdly.
