Am i paying too much for cell phone service?

Well Im with Att and have my line under my dads account and am currently paying $40/month only for calling(no messaging) which is 450 minutes+rollover, unlimited nights/weekends+unlimited mobile to mobile. I recently bought a smartphone from a friend and might be charged an extra $20 for the cheapest data plan they offer which is 300mb so I will now be paying $60/month. Am I paying too much considering I dont have a job?Im paying all this with my financial aid money from college.

Try the unlimited pre-pay like Straight Talk and virgin mobile, they offer unlimited everything (web, text and talk) and it's generally around $40-45 a month. They have excellent coverage too, well straight talk does anyway. AND you're free to choose teh specific phone you want. The phone may be more expensive (but NOT nearly as expensive as iPhones or other fancy phones, but same capabilities). They're not outrageously expensive either, not like the typical smart phones.

$60 & $40 are certainly better then $100 or more. I have a iPhone, which I bought, and my grandmother pays for the bill. I'm not sure how much it costs but she has alluded it it being somewhat high. God forbid if you text someone in another country or go to another country, unlock your phone and use allot of data over there O_0 My friend once went to Japan and we had been talking. The next thing I knew, my grandmother was flipping out about how it the bill had increased! When I went to Europe, my phone had to be unlocked and I guess I used up allot of data, anyway a few months after I came back I got the bill. The bill was around $1,000+!!!

Be happy that you pay so little.

    • Holy Cows!! Thats a lot of money for using data in another country! Yea I didn't know Iphone users pay around $100 or more. So I guess even $60 isn't that much for call+internet. I thought it was a lot.lol

I'm going to assume US$. I was paying about 50% more than you for about the same thing. It was mainly out of laziness in not upgrading (and in not putting in the effort of doing my research). I finally got fed up of it a week or two ago and spent about six hours researching my options.

Best thing I ever did. I now pay a third of what I did and I have the best phone in the world (for me, anyway). I am absolutely nuts about my phone and can't believe I'm saving money as well.

    • Thats good!! You should've done that a long time ago and saved you some extra $$$ if you weren't so lazy.lol..you probably could've save enough money for a 1 week out of this country vacation.lol..Yea I am also nuts about this new smartphone as well, has way more things than I will ever use compared to my dumbphone I used to have(or still have).lol. So I guess even $60 for call+internet isn't that much huh? I thought otherwise.lol
