Am i stupid

When I was going through my screening for autism and it got to the IQ testing, the psychiatrist told me I could skip it. I was struggling with a question because I was insecure about getting the answer wrong and sounding stupid. The psychiatrist then told me that I don't need to go through the IQ test because I had a hard time in school due to bullying so I probably missed a lot. I am not sure how me having been bullied would make me miss out on education, and I didn't ask what her reasoning for thinking that was. I guess that means they never actually tested my intelligence and yet in my papers she put that I have normal intelligence. I wonder if that means there is a possibility that I am not intelligent and she was just being nice. I have never considered myself book smart anyway but I don't know.

If you’re IQ was quite low you’d very much struggle to read what you just wrote, let alone write it that coherently. A decent bet it’s at least average, it’s not a high bar.

    Yeah, probably.

I'm kidding. I'm not sure bullying would affect your classes, either, unless you skipped school to avoid it. Not the best offhand comment from a psychiatrist.

IQ doesn't really have anything to do with book smarts, though, so you probably don't have much to worry about there.

Intelligence has nothing to do with education.

Based on how you write, I think it’s fair to assume you’re in the “normal” IQ range as opposed to someone with unusually low IQ. Maybe that was all she needed to document for the purpose of the test, and not a specific score.

    I can kind of relate.

I was mistaken for having ADHD as a kid (turns out it's OCD and GAD they misdiagnosed me) and because of that I was required to be monitored by a school psychiatrist who actually had OCD which always makes me laugh to think about considering he missed how I had the same disorder but that's a whole other story.

Anyway I was tested for some odd reason on my common sense several times by doing memorization tasks like looking at a picture of a kid at a playground and memorizing all the items on the picture and it felt like the most degrading torture ever. Then I had a take a quiz that asked me incredibly personal questions in which I lied on and at the very end of the year I had to take an intelligence test that wasn't even an intelligence test at all despite them calling it one.. they asked me questions like who are the first 10 presidents in order, asked me to do math equations, puzzles in which I was timed while being watched which made me all the more anxious and more history questions.

It was really strange and when I finished I was told she'd call my parents with the results... I had my Mom tell me the results came back as normal but I questioned if she was being nice as well. Imagine if the results showed I was stupid? I don't think a parent would even say that to their child so I don't actually know what the results are for sure. I'm thinking my test was more of "are they stupid and that's why they're having trouble in school" or "are they not stupid and it's their disorder" and they weren't really looking at IQ because it was half academic questions in which I got wrong because I couldn't pay attention in class from my anxiety and only a few puzzles that could possibly be IQ related.

I wouldn't let it bother you though and I personally feel like if you can question it that would likely mean you're definitely not stupid as stupid people tend to be ignorant and think they're smarter than they really are. Personally I don't know what I am but most friends I've had often tell me I'm smart so that's good enough for me.

"They are not allowed to do that."

I never did an IQ test in my life, let alone at my autistic screening when I was 7. When did it become mandatory?

No, I mean the psychiatrist would not be allowed to put normal intelligence as their result just to be nice.

I don't know where you got the idea I was saying IQ tests are mandatory.

          Ahh, I see.

I thought you were talking about the part where they said "When I was going through my screening for autism and it got to the IQ testing, the psychiatrist told me I could skip it."
