From an outsiders perspective it looks like many Americans are a bit obsessed about having perfect teeth and they have these fake looking Hollywood style perfect smiles. Do most of them have veneers done? If so doesn’t that end up being expensive and a pain in the arse having to get them fixed and replaced etc?
Its not just America. Most of the world is attracted to people with good looking teeth, and thus good looking teeth are desirable.
America is one of perhaps a dozen countries where advanced dentistry and tooth care is reasonably priced compared to the average income and people can afford the dental care or procedures necessary to have good looking teeth.
A friend of mine has natural horrible front teeth (like from dental horror book); and truly appreciates that they could get high quality modifications to allow them to look nice and smile; which was not realistically possible in their home country.
It makes me sad that so many people are unhappy with their bodies and feel the need to change themselves to find the unrealistic Hollywood beauty standards. :(
When they start to rot they get annoying and cause other problems, but Ive found you can deal wtih that pretty easily on your own. Ive been to the dentist once in the last 15 years cause I got a really bad infection and needed a tooth pulled, they wanted to pull like 6 more. No way I'm dealing with that.
Its teeth though... yeah genetics can make then grow in weird but for most kids you wear braces to fix that. Having poor teeth reflects bad habits, thus it gives the impression of they dont give a fuck about themselves. It's not unrealistic to want Hollywood straight teeth, if you want your teeth to be that white you can always brush like 12 times a day.
I think women tend to care more about their teeth and smiles then most men do. Have seen so many hot, beautiful women with perfect teeth, with or dating guys who could really use a dentist, but don't go. My gf has health issues with her back and other things that hinder her walking (she walks a little hunched over, and slow), and has scars on her arm from a previous job, but, also has an amazing, sexy smile that draws people in. Her other issues don't matter, b/c of her sly, sexy smile and gorgeous green eyes. Nobody sees the arm scars (at least, at first), b/c that smile of hers just takes your attention. She's fantastically beautiful even with the health issues.
I'm an American and literally nobody I know has ever had cosmetic dentistry? I mean, I have a crown, but I had a root canal so I'm fairly certain that doesn't count as cosmetic.
If you're only seeing America through the lens of Hollywood you're going to get a lot of things wrong about us, honestly. Yes, cosmetic dentistry is extremely expensive because even necessary dentistry is almost impossible to get unless you have health insurance that covers it. I spent $1600 on my root canal and crown just so I wouldn't be in unbelievable pain 24/7 anymore. I have a toothache now that I can't fix because I can't afford to see anyone. That's the reality that most Americans find themselves in. If your workplace has a lousy insurance package you almost certainly don't have dental along with it. It's an unfortunate reality.
That aside, I've literally never noticed the condition of someone's teeth unless it's really bad. Most Americans don't particularly care, and like someone said, coffee is more common here and it's easier on teeth. I did have braces when I was a kid, but it was because my overbite was bad enough to make it hard to chew with my mouth closed, not because I didn't like the look of things. Unfortunately, America is a lot different to how Hollywood portrays us.
I never really look at a woman’s teeth, not really the shit that’s on my radar 😏
I have a huge gap in front of my teeth and there's discoloration. It's never been a problem when trying to get dates or meet new people. Before the mandatory mask rule at work, customers would tell me my smile was cute.

Meh, some people just like a nice white smile. My teeth aren't perfect at all but they aren't bad at all either. They'll do, thank you.
I donf have anything but a little cavity work. But taking care of your teeth is stupid important
North Americans don't drink tea. Tea gives teeth horrid stains that take years to get rid of. Coffee isn't as bad; it will brush off in only a few days.
I’m American. I actually love crooked teeth. I wind up with dudes with perfect teeth. Last one had braces and current one didn’t have any work done. My front tooth is a little fucked up bc my mom wanted my calcium deposits gone and they did a botch job. But I don’t mind.
I have veneers because I had to have fake teeth put in when I was young so I figured I might as well do the whole set up. I’m not American though.
They were a bit of a pain but I think they’re really worth it
A lot of people are, but most peoples teeth aren't perfect.
Teeth stain quite easily from stuff like coffee and I think it's quite unusual to be born with completely straight teeth but people still obssess over this american or not.
Braces exsist for this very reason. Heck in wearing a permanent retainer glued to my bottom 6 teeth. Just so they dont shift to cover a missing baby molar that I lacked the adult replacement for.
I have a few crooked teeth, was never offered braces though up until pretty recently when a dentist told me it could be a good idea. Not sure if its worth it though
Depends if your employer is a stickler on teeth. Having massively messed up teeth is a turn off for some employers because lack of care for teeth is a sign that you dont care about your own health, thus your job performance would be lack luster.
A few crooked teeth however should be fine.
