Anorexia = perfection, iin?

I have anorexia and I guess you could say that I'm currently having a "relapse". It first developed when I was much younger. At first I was jealous of thinner people and then I became obsessed with celebrities and their thinness. From their the obsession grew... I barely ate and I dropped the pounds. At the time, I wanted to look like Nicole Richie. So, I set my target to 81 pounds. I was losing and I had no desire to stop. My lowest weight was in the late 70's to early 80's. It was then that my mother flipped out at me and forced me to gain weight. She apparently was "fearful" of what the neighbours would say so, she forced me to eat even when I was full. I wasn't taken to a professional and therefore the situation wasn't properly handle... It was very traumatic for me. I was around 9 or 11 years old at the time.

Now, I'm in my late teens and my desires have set my anorexia free from it's cage! Using sites like tumblr really inspired me to loose weight... Then, I saw my doctor... I was about 104 pounds at the time and I had a little pudge. My doctor made fun and me and basically told me I was fat. To make matters worse, the nurse joined in on the ridicule. It hurt my feelings and set me on the path towards perfection. I'm glad that they gave me the wake up call, I really needed it...

I also have depression and I lost myself by eating a bit more then I usually do. I got myself out of that cloud of eating and I'm trying to regain my strict regime. Watching my calories, eating half of my food, 2-3 meals a day. I prefer to eat foods in the 100's and below. 200 calories is passable, but nothing over 300. I feel like anything 300 and above is the danger zone to being obese. I don't want to be fat! It disgusts me... I don't Exercise and I really mostly on my metabolism and things that boost it like coffee and tea.

I hate to eat. I think it's a pointless waste of time. My family doesn't help things by making fun of my "thinness" & constant mentions of food. I hate when people say I'm thin, because I know they're lying. I know that anorexia can be dangerous, but for some reason I don't think it can kill me. If I do die, then I'd rather die thin. If I'm thin, then I'll be perfected. I want to be perfect and I can't be if I'm fat. That's why I want to regain my former glory. Passed the 80's and into the 70's. I want to be thin like Audrey Hepburn:)

it's sad that you're putting image above your health
to the point where you'd rather be dead as long as you're what you think is "thin"

the problem is... you see body fat where others see normal flesh.
this is not normal. looking like a skeleton is only attractive to skeletor

I'm sad having to face the fact that I used to let Ana have so much power over my life. I was so wretched.

Anyway, I now have reasons to want to live a very long life. I never knew that life could be so wonderful until now. Thank you. :)

The more I take the steps towards completely being myself, the more I love for myself I will feel. And, I'm getting love and support from someone very dear to me. I've never been this happy in my life. I have no more reasons to let Ana control me. I want to have a very long life :)

Man. That's terrible. Your doctor is a dick and your nurse is the cunt he's sticking it in.

Being unhealthily thin is not attractive and it's not perfect. What's the good in being thin if you've barely got the strength enough to live your life? You're destroying your body, forcing it to run off of reserves of energy that are not there. Look up the health effects of anorexia, do you consider lanugo, disease, a shitty immune system, infertility and physical weakness "perfection"?

You want to be healthy, and not fat, but the point is not physical appearance, the point is being in good enough shape to live your life and not be at the mercy of a stairway or type 2 diabetes. Please go see a counselor. This is not normal and every minute you spend doing this is further damaging your body. Health isn't just about length of life, it's about quality of life and you're looking at what could possibly be a slow, painful, miserable death.

My doctor is a female. I know she cares about me and wants what's best.

I don't think I can "Reverse" this or stop it. Even if I "stopped" it, it would only be for awhile. It would creep back up on me and I would relapse again... I'm not in the mood for more trauma. Which is why I can't get too thin as long as I still live with my family. When in college, I hopefully won't have people haressing me and holding me back from losing weight... I can't stop this even if I wanted to...

I'm not judging here, I've never been through this and I would never understand, but why don't you want to stop it? All I have ever seen from uncontrolled anorexia is pain, both physical and emotional and it worries me that you're comfortable with the possibility of such a painful death...

It's not like you're going to be obese if you decide to start gaining weight, getting to the point at which you would be obese would take many years and much effort for someone that is, at least, somewhat active and gives somewhat of a shit about their health. The level of negligence involved in becoming obese (along with the health problems that often contribute) is way more than you think it is.

You're comfortable with death, yes? But why? What is so wrong with your life and this world that can only be fixed by causing YOURSELF this much pain, the the point at which your body literally falls apart? What is so wrong with your life that you can't find any reason to not want to live a life of pain and misery that you're bringing upon yourself? What is so painful about your life that you'd rather die, in pain and misery, than find help and recover?

Why do you hate yourself so badly?

The fact that youre on here asking for help should tell you all you need to know. :/

Also if you have body dysmorphic disorder, it doesnt matter how skinny you get. Youll still want to lose more weight.

As much good advice as I could give you, the best at my disposal is to seek counseling to help you deal with these problems and be healthy. Dont give up if the first ones no good, I had to go through several before I found someone who worked for me.

I suppose you're right. To a extent I know that it isn't really normal... I'm currently stuck with my therapist, but I do plan to get another one as soon as possible. But there's the risk that I won't trust that one enough to share my problems. Even if I lose a few pounds, a part of me is happy, but not completely satisfied... I know that when I get around my target, that I should be somewhat satisfied... Or maybe, I won't be. I guess I'll have to take it one step at a time...

I am glad that you managed to get help for it:)

While I never struggled with anorexia I definitely had some experiences with body dysmorphic disorder, I see my counselor for that and a few other problems that arent relevant enough to be worth getting into here. :P

There is a chance youll be satisfied once you reach your goal weight, but theres also a good chance that you stil wont see yourself accurately.

Happiness shouldnt be based on appearance anyway, it will fade in time. Be happy, be healthy and find other ways to feel good. :)

I know That this could kill me. I'm okay with that. I don't look forward to living so, why not embrace death with some shred of happiness? If I didn't die thin, then I would be angry at myself. I would have failed. I see a therapist, but I've learned that I can't trust him. I've found support for this, whether it be negative or positive... I nearly loss a friend over this. But some of my other friends have been more understanding, if not concerned.

      • No... change therapists then and try harder to fight against this. You have a life while others have none or don't have the chance of happiness.

Happiness is not being thin because how can you be happy when you've made yourself miserable to attain such a state?

I'm afraid that your response has made me a bit angry because what about your family and friends? They don't care what size you are so long as you are.

Simply put, they just want you to be alive and happy.

Being too thin can be even more dangerous. It takes less time to die of malnutrition than of obesity. That, and you say looking thin is attractive. You are right, but looking like a skeleton before you decompose is literally the most utterly disgusting turn-of there is. Get better help. At the very least, buy necessary vitamins and take them every single day. I'd rather lay a fat girl than an anorexic one. At least with fat people, there IS something to lay, not a stick figure. And, while your family is "mocking" your "thinness", they doing that to snap you out of this delusion. You think "It's my life, if I die thin, I die happy". No. Do you know how much depression, sadness, and emotional damage you're bringing to your family? They're just covering it up with sarcastic remarks and teasing.

Thank you. I am better now in terms of my ED, though I have other "health issues" to worry about.... I'm still thin, but I don't really care about my calorie consumption anymore.

I suppose it's a possibility that my family was going for that, but they have the tendency to be "cruel". I don't think I caused any form of damage to them. At the time, they were more concerned about their hides and how the neighbors would view them. It's pretty pathetic. I honestly don't really care if my relapse caused them "pain". I'm not trying to sound rude, but I really don't care. I can't emotionally connect with those people.

its kind of surprising to me that you don't exercise. i can't help but wonder why not. maybe you should try exercising just to relieve some of the stress that comes from your need for perfection. i would think it would greatly increase your self image, since you'll like the results on your body and just the act of exercising itself creates a general good feeling. maybe it'll help you start seeing your body as a good thing, and you could start giving yourself some food-leway because you'll feel like you deserve it. at least that's what works for me but i have no idea what you're going through, i really think its something serious and you shouldn't have to suffer. please change therapists

Here's what will happen to you in the long run if you continue down this self-destructive path:

    -Infertility
    -Osteoporosis
-High risk of depression and anxiety, which increases the likelihood of committing suicide
    -Heart disease
    -Diabetes
-Gastrointestinal problems (eg. bloating and constipation)
    -Oesophagus cancer
    -Permanent brain damage
    -Anemia
-Multiorgan (eg. kidney, liver, heart, pancreas) failure, which can result in death.

You say you want to die thin. The thing is, though, you won't die quickly. You will experience most of the symptoms I've listed above before you die, and it will be highly painful and all-around unpleasant.

I don't mean to scare you, but you do need a wake up call. Please seek help, and not from that doctor you saw before.

It's definitely not a good idea to be anorexic like this. You're doing something counterproductive. If you make yourself too thin you will look uglier than ever, and risk illness and death. If anyone gawks at your body with severe anorexia their first impression would be worry rather than attractiveness. Take the example of Isabelle Caro, a French model. She had anorexia and in the end it just made her look like a dying 100-year old. She actually did die in 2010 at the age of 28.

To get into shape, simply avoid foods with high sugar content and too much carbohydrates. You do need it but you can get it through other healthy sources like fruit. Instead of eating 3 big meals a day, have a meal every 3 hours. Eat a medium breakfast, lunch and dinner every 6 hours from when you get up, and a snack in between (ex. If you get up at 6, eat breakfast right away, have a snack at 9, eat lunch at 12, snack at 3, eat dinner at 6 and have another snack anytime after dinner). Do NOT skip meals because that's just going to eat into your muscle as your body tries to conserve fat more than anything else.

If you still have a sweet-tooth, buy products sweetened with stevia. It's a natural sweetener found in chicory root that's much sweeter than sugar. Don't consume more then 10g of it every day though, but that won't be an issue because the slightest bit of stevia can add LOTS of sweetness. Don't use aspartame because it just increases your craving for sugar.

With Isabelle Caro most of what I felt was jealousy... It's a shame she died.
I can't eat much of a variety due to severe food allergies. I eat mostly organic foods. No meat and high in fiber. I eat "three" meals. Two moderate sized ones for breakfast and lunch. Dinner is usually very light. Greek yogurt and some fruit. Where I live, it's very hard to find products sweetened with Stevia. When I don't use Stevia I use: agave syrup, brown sugar or honey. For snack, I usually have a few pieces of chocolate. I avoid all artificial preservatives and sweeteners as they due more harm then good. I couldn't eat more even if I wanted to. I barely have much of a appetite in general.

If that's the case, slowly increase your portions a little bit at a time.
As for the meat, eat more lean ones. Try to avoid the ones covered in fat and such. The protein will make you grow in body tissues, and usually not in fat.
Since sugar is a big contributor to fat, you might want to cut out on the chocolate if you're doing it on a regular basis.
I doubt the doctors were actually being serious. 104 pounds is not fat AT ALL.

You are slowly killing yourself with your delusion of thinking you are fat or wanting to "be thin". You are thin. 5'2 and 104 lbs is THIN, too thin. just something that someone should probably point out, pudge is normally temporary as in from what you've just eaten its normal to get physically bloated. Also people who are starved and anorexic tend to *puff* up because of the lack of food and it gets misunderstood as fat. Its also common to put weight on more easily the less consistently you eat food.

One thing I can tell from the way your talking is that you are a person of extremes and you will remain that way until you can find balance. What i mean by that is this:
You want to get as thin as possible
You exercised past what your limit was and got hurt
This and I myself am I person of extremes and you have to be careful. This has nothing to do with being anorexic or being fat if you somehow manage to enjoy food you will probably just end up eating an extreme amount its normal. This will happen until you realize you don't need to control yourself you need to balance yourself. Its difficult to see which way is up when your always falling over.

Other than that good job being alive till now, your ahead of others. Have fun and good luck

My diet really want healthy back then and I have/still have digestive problems. I get so bloated but, I no longer get pudge. I am naturally thin with a fast matabolism and it is difficult for me to gain weight. I do eat quite a lot on average, though. I no longer count calories or obsess over any of that stuff. I never will be able to because, it serves as a trigger for relapse.

      Anyway, thank you. :)

Ok, if you want man characteristics. That is so unhealthy, you grow a lot more hair all over your body. You lose your womenhood meaning you won't have periods, won't be able to have children do to that and plus it does screw up you menstral cycle even when you start eating healthy and getting excercise in; pretty much earlier menopause.

My friend who became anorexic in high school even had constipation issues. She still has them when it's been nearly 7 years since then and she is healthy and in shape now. She even had a child and still has health issues due to it.

I just don't understand why you think anorexic people are so attractive. There is nothing there but flesh and bone, plus it shows that you have a very low self-esteem on yourself. You need to be happy with yourself before finding someone. :(

My question is how tall are you?

I'm no longer 5' 2". I've since grown quite a bit. I'm still very thin and I have difficulty gaining weight, on account if my fast matabolism. I've always been naturally thin. I eat quite a lot on average but, I can barely seem to gain any weight.

My menstrual cycle to have been permanently imbalanced. On one hand, it's a blessing in that I don't have to deal with it as much but, I worry if it will cause a problem if I ever were to try and kids one day.

Thats not good. I'm actually that tall and have no idea how much I weigh anymore. I use to be weight consious but now I truely don't care. Just “try” to eat healthy and get excercise. The last time I looked about half a year ago I weighed about 125 and I like the way I look, curves not to big or skinny.

But I just remember when my friend use to be that way. You need to get another doctor. He was rude and doesn't seem that smart by any means. But after her doctor told her about the 5th time that she needs to gain weight and explain what all comes with anorexia she completely changed and realized how ridiculous she had become about her weight. Curves are sexy, not skin and bones. Also when you become healthier the happier you become.

Plus I like you Avant-Garde, I don't want you to die. I know quite a few people on here like you too.

Hey... truth is there isn't a thing called perfection. the perfect anorexic is dead. point out those things you like about your body & learn to love those parts you hate, with time it gets better there is no joy in starving yourself that's no way to live ain't it. anorexia isn't glamorous there is no glory in it, it's a monster that will eat you alive. take action & get help YOU are in control NOT anorexia. all the best. x

I know that Anorexia has a hideous face, but it's able to mask this side well. If I could die thin, then that would make me happy. It means that I would of accomplished something. That I actually meant something... I tried to suppress, but it was too strong. It got me at my weakess moments and promised me happiness... Now, I'm relapsing. I don't think I can turn back now.

There's no "i'm in too deep"
the only way out is through.
        having suffered from
        anorexia & bulimia for 7
years still trying to get rid
of them but my body will
never be same. if you have
the will to fight you can do it if not find it. anorexia is not a good way to go.

I ended up seeing another therapist but, she didn't really help either. She wouldn't even share her experiences with her eating disorders with me. I only ended up recovering once I began to properly practice Buddhism.

I really couldn't trust him, the man was a asshole. While he told my "secrets", I'm not sure if he did the same with his other patients. His boss must not of known otherwise why risk doing something illegal with me or anyone else for that manner? Oh well, he's thankfully not in my life anymore. I stopped seeing him in the summer.

Why would i joke about something like this?! I guess I do have a bit of a death wish. Ana or not, I'm not the healthiest person around. Everyone dies and I will too... I don't really want a long life, but I don't feel like dying so soon either. When I die, I want to be the thinnest I could be. If not, then I'd never be able to live with myself.

This is not normal, as one person pointed out already the problem is you see "fat" in certain body parts where no else does.
Ask yourself this...being super skinny...is it going to bring you happiness? (your still suffering from depression)...is it going to give you friends?...is it going to make you a more likeable person?...is it going to give you a boyfriend?..Food is not the problem, the thoughts are, Food is fab!

Thank you so much. I have since seen the error of that mindset. It pains me that I used to be that sick. I'm no longer depressed. I love cooking and eating. I'm still as thin as a stick, though. I do have to be extremely careful not to fall back into my old ways. There are many things that I have to avoid to prevent me from relapsing like, counting calories arms controlling portions (etc). I have always been blessed with a fast matoblism and have been naturally thin. I never needed a eating disorder to be thin, in the first place! And, To think it could've killed me! I would've have missed out on everything.

It can and probably will kill you. Anorexia is not perfection and I know very few people who even find skinny girls attractive. Please seek professional help for your eating disorder, and cut yourself off from sites like tumblr that trigger you.

Tumblr no longer "triggers" me. I follow so many people that it's rare for me to find something on Pro-ana. Tumblr apparently issued a new policy that "bans" pro-ana" blogs, I don't think they'll be able to get rid of all of them though... Eventually, I hope to get a better therapist than the one I have now.

There are a few small things that I think could help you...

Look up your BMI for your height. It should be between 20-25 and the lowest of 20 is the minimum weight you should be, or it can lead to health problems like osteoporosis :o( which has long term consequences for you.

There is too much of this nowadays and parents could help by getting rid of bathroom scales and full length mirrors in the house.

Look after yourself pet ~ you are more than a skeleton covered with skin. I'm sure you're a lovely, sensitive and caring person.

Joybird, I'm sorry I took so long with this.

My current BMI is 15.98 and my weight is 86.9 lbs.

I went on a site and it said that my BMI was 17.0, I'm not sure if that's supposed to be the "healthy BMI" for my height.

No your BMI should be 20 for your height. You are way underweight and I have read every post on this page out of concern for you. I assume you are young and you have so much ahead of you, you will have a family at some point and hopefully leave this condition behind you.

I really hate to tell you this but coffeebreath mentioned kidney failure - this killed my dad last year, in one week. Then all the other organs closed down. When your kidneys fail the body is unable to expel liquid and you start to swell and swell and swell - like an inflated balloon :o( So contrary to your belief if this happens to you, before any of the others, you will die a size extra large and not look a skeleton in your coffin.

Once your BMI is under 18 you are extremely likely to develop osteoporosis from a lack of calcium found in cheese etc. My poor aunt had this and she was in terrible pain, her hands were twisted and her bones were like powder. She fell down a curb and broke her hip, her arm and her shoulder - none of which ever healed properly. She died before the age of 60 too :o(

Food is the fuel for your body, and it's the only body you have to come on here and help us all :o) We would hate to lose you, and we don't even know or care how thin or fat you are ;o)

Come on girl, eat that chocolate and snack a little more, drink more milk for sure and put on a few lbs in case you get sick - then you've something to lose in the event of an emergency.

Please, please, please, look after yourself by eating more!!

I know longer count calories or control my portions. I can eat anything and it will barely make me gain weight. I have a fast matabolism. Before my EDs, I was naturally thin. After, I'm still naturally thin. The only problem is that because, I grew taller, I am still underweight but, probably even more so. I haven't weighed myself in a really long time so, I'm going on based by what my mother's claims have been.

I don't think this is real simply because 104 pounds at any height is incredibly thin. I don't believe that anyone, let alone a doctor, would make fun of someone for being fat when they are at a weight which is low enough to get them hospitalised. For example. Audrey Hepburn weighed 110 pounds.

This isn't a joke. I'm not joking at all. I don't appreciate you saying that my life is a joke of sorts. My doctor did tell me those things. So, I guess I should agree with her since she's my doctor. I did have a disgusting pudge and it is slowly getting flatter. I have her to thank for giving me a sorely needed wake up call. I dont know exactly what the best weight is for my height, but it surely isn't 104.
