Any advice for beginner waitresses?

I just started a new job at a restaurant waitressing. If any of you guys are experienced I was wondering if you could give me some tips? it has a fair amount of people that dine in, but most of the food is take out. Im in need of tips and tricks for first timers like me.
also for the most part I will be the only server in the restaurant.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I'm sure megadriver is absolutely right about getting yourself a pair of comfortable shoes designed for standing for lengthy periods that fit well and provide cushioned support. If your employer requires you to wear a certain type of shoe, consider buying a size larger than what you usually wear and get some padded insoles.

You should also look into buying compression socks or stockings. They improve blood-flow to your lower legs and feet and that helps reduce fatigue.

I wear makeup to look more professional. Make sure you're hands and nails are clean. Fake it till you make it! Be whoever that table wants you to be. Always prebus your tables; no one like clutter. Make sure you're a team player with the other employees and I'm sure they'll help you out! I love waitressing and bartending! It can be tons of fun and you have the opportunity to make a shitload of money! If you don't like the place you're at stick around to get more previous experience and then you can go to even better places with more money 😎 Good luck!

Be friendly and polite and you're good. It also helps to be aware of your surroundings at all times. If you're carrying a huge tray of champagne, don't drop it (although I did recieve pity tips).

Imagine you are the customer and visualize all the stuff you would want on your table for a nice meal. Stuff like butter, ice water, etc. So the customer does not have to ask for the obvious.

Don't check on the customer every 2 seconds ate the beginning then forget them later. Check on them later too.

I waitressed at two different places. I can say that if you can chat with your customers you will enjoy yourself more and definitely get more tips! Tips are your lifeline because you can minimum wage otherwise. What they said about confortable shoes is definitely accurate. I was a cocktail waitress and was there until like 3 am so maybe it's a big different. Mens bathrooms were nasty, I had to clean that. Drunk men would pee allover, would think it was funny to pee on the wall.. That is part of why I quit. I hope you have better luck than me.

Improve your physical appearance if you can. You'll get better tips. Also get good shoes and make sure not to get to stressed out if customers are upset at you.

The best thing you can do as someone starting out is to always be positive. Keep a smile and try to look like you like your job.

Also you should try to know the menu, if someone asks you a question about a menu item you should be able to answer, but this will usually come when working at the place for a month or two.

Thankfully I've never been a waiter, but even I can tell you to start off by buying a pair of really comfortable shoes.
