I have noticed that a lot of sites have been crashing. Its becoming frequent and even on sites that never seem to be down. Its not just with one site either. Anyone else noticing this little trend?

It's mainly DDoS-attacks that have become much more frequent lately... I do not know why people do this though since it isn't really something you would gain profit out of...
What would cause them to become so frequent though? Are they trying to accomplish something?
I have no idea what they hope to achieve... In case of a group that appeared like 1 week ago, who call themselves DERPtrolling (look for DERPtrolling on Twitter), has been taking down many famous Games for some hours like f.e. League of Legends, Guild Wars 2, DotA 2 or even Steam...
I believe they are some script kiddies who abuse technologies created by others just to cause harm to the companies and players and giving them some fun apparently...
A lot of sites have to go through routine maintenance which makes them temporarily slow or shut down. I don't think that all of the crashes are related to a bunch of hackers attacking sites. Maybe some I guess.
