Are homeless ppl in america just lazy?

Regarding NON-DISABLED people only.

(And sure I give a lil money to them all the time, but I live in one of the best working cities in the country. Why are they on the corner all day, early in the morning until night time, couldn't they just find a job?)

Yes, You live in america, GET OFF YOUR ASS LAZY 11

I think you should be more concerned with rich people and politicians.

    • Liberal spotted. Ok what does that have to do with begging on the corner when jobs are available in a 1st world country

Ever heard those stories about working in an Amazon warehouse? If the choice was between begging for money on a street corner or working for Amazon, I think more people than you'd expect would opt for homelessness

        • Then you don't understand what it's like in those third world countries where people would love to work and get the same conditions they get at Amazon for the benefits that you are able to obtain. Not to mention the fact that once again, we live in freaking america! You do not have one option! Google is even available now, we live in an internet era. I'm not a conservative but y'all with weird victim mentality are extremely unserious

I doubt many of them aren’t disabled if you count mental illness and/or drug addiction. If they don’t have any serious problems then yeah I guess they may be lazy or unlucky with job searching. Although some can even have a job and still be homeless depending on their expenses.

I think there are multiple factors, including mental illness and addiction, but yes, some are lazy and/or not putting in enough effort to get off the streets. Sounds harsh, but it's true. I knew a couple of people who turned out this way, and for them, it really was a choice.

I think some are, but there wil probably be other factors at play for many of them, such as drugs, unfortunate home circumstances, low IQs, etc

Some are, but there's many different factors. Mental illness, alcoholism and drugs, and just plain bad luck. When you're living paycheck to paycheck, a convergence of circumstances can put you out on thr street if you have no safety net. If you get laid off, evicted and exhaust your unemployment and have no friends or relatives to help you temporarily you're out.

Doesnt sound like a homeless person just like a "that" kind of cigarettes bum

Depends which region. I'm more inclined to belive a homeless person choosing to be a bum in California than in the cold ass midwest.

I forgot to mention this in my comment, but this is true as well. Regional impact is a big factor. Housing costs, job opportunities, and ability to drive are all important parts of the homeless issue.

I live in a fairly rural area, kind of a combination of farmland and suburbia. Having a job but not a car out here would really screw you over. The buses are only scheduled to arrive at each stop once an hour, and most of the time they're late anyway. Not to mention the stops are in really out-of-the-way areas that aren't close to anything. The commute alone could turn into a 4-hour journey round trip

I'm just saying that where I live if you are homeless during the winter if you dont find shelter you will die. So theres a greater motivation to not be homeless. Not to mention it's cheaper to get out from being homeless, with the aplenty jobs available. Sure it's mostly factory jobs but it's enough to pay for an appartment or trailer home.

As for california, except the occasional heatwave and the increased chance of getting robbed you are fine.

    Some are, some aren't.

Some of them actually work pretty damn hard but willibgly choose to be homeless for one reason or another. This is called vagabonding and many people just don't like being tied down to long term responsibilities. Then there's people who simply don't have the life skills prepared from being pampered as a teenager. These people will become homeless and (hopefully) learn to climb out of it. Finally, you have the people who are homeless due to laziness or drug addiction. (Including alchoholism.) Obviously these are the people most complain about.

The issue is that being homeless can lead to mental health issue which often leads to substance absuse. Poor mental health + addiction = disaster in the United States. Some regions of the country baby you and other regions just tell you to "get over it". Neither leads to success.

I guess my post got deleted. Could have swore I posted on here.

But yes if you are able bodied and homeless in America for an extended period of time theres something seriously wrong with you. We have some of the highest wages in the world and theres so much space you can find cheap houses. Some ppl are not willing to do things that are hard even if theyre very doable. Theyd rather complain and get handouts and live in poverty and do drugs.

Most homeless people I have checked out had a variety of problems which make it impossible for them to have steady employment or even stay in the same place for more than a short time.

I've seen some that will work their butt off for money... but are not reliable for more than a few days due to their mental or health issues.

I don't see any real long term fix.

Being homeless takes a lot of work and effort to manage - most lazy people don't want to put out that amount of effort or suffer the living conditions.

I think in Cali its ridiculous they let them just pitch tents on the sidewalks and shit on the streets and they come and hand them needles everyday. If you have been living on the street for more than a few months they should start drugtesting you and if you fail too many times youre taken to a mental hospital and forcibly detoxed. Then sent to a work program. We coddle them too much it doesnt work.

They are mostly addicts. There are 70,000 of them in L.A.

I wish the government would officially declare southern California as a failed state and start focusing more on parts of the country that aren't malignant, cancerous tumors
