Are hyenas honestly ugly animals?

I know this sounds like a ridiculous question but I don't think hyenas are that ugly of animals. They aren't even on a countdown I just looked at of 30 of the ugliest animals on earth. They're just often given a bad rep because they have extremely scary laughs and they look mischievous, like the ones from The Lion King. So please give it a serious thought, look them up and honestly consider their appearance.
After careful consideration, do you honestly think that hyenas are ugly? If you want, you can even rate their appearance 1-10 in a comment!

    Hyenas are wonderful animal, they are clever and lead a very hard life. My respect for them is deep.

    I think they are awesome. They are so unique. Devilla is right about the hind quarters, but they are still really cool. Some people think sloths are ugly too. I think they're so cute!!

    they're just not my type of animal. coz i love lions and lions hate hyena's.

    I don't think any animal can look 'ugly' as such...some are less aesthetically pleasing, but it's impossible to say what's ugly. I think slugs are disgusting but not ugly.

    I used to think that they were hidious looking. Then I learned a little about them and as my respect grew, their looks improved. Weird how that works.

    I don't believe that they are beautiful nor ugly. I believe that they are disproportionate compared to other species that they are related to, which makes other people see them as ugly.

    I've never thought of a hyena as ugly. They are just another animal that's part of the circle of life. Although they may appear to be mischievous that's just a label we give them. In reality they're not any more mischievous than any other animal, they're just trying to survive like everyone else.
