Are periods supposed to feel like this?

I'm in my 20s but have never had what you would call normal/regular periods. PCOS and medication messed my up my cycle. I hadn't had a real period for years until recently. The last couple of months they've been somewhat regular but the pain is horrible. My abdomen, my head, eyes, back and even my bum everything hurts. I'm pretty sure I'm bleeding more than I should be. But because it's never been normal I don't know what normal is.

It's "normal" for PCOS or other uterine/endocrine disorders...but you shouldn't have to live with it. There are medications and treatments you can get.

I see you say that medication messed up your cycle? You mean birth control? Ideally, it should regulate, not mess it up. Have you tried more than one type?

You should see your endocrinologist to see what you can do to manage the menstruation. Probably would be good to see a gynecologist about checking if there's anything else wrong - endometriosis, etc.

It sucks. I'm sorry. I hope you get something to help soon.

You need to see a gynecologist and tell him or her what you are telling us.

  • Wouldn’t hurt to get checked out I can’t tell you what normal is because I’ve never been either. I’m supposed to go to the doctors and get a second ultrasound, wand this time (had the jelly kind before and couldn’t tell that way) to see if I have endometriosis. I have to keep being on birthcontrol to somewhat stabilize me. Even on it I’m not normal. Without I get lightheaded and my legs get weak I can’t stand long and can barly breathe the sharp pains feel like they’re litterally killing me. On it I still hurt but can go to work without passing out so that’s cool I guess. To sugar coat it my bloods also weird. My blood got better over the years I guess it does that, mine did. Idk if I’m normal but a lot better than I used to be. It didn’t like stopping. Id get random bloody noses frequently lasting at least a hour dripping non stop. 6th grade one lasted two hours and then went slow but didn’t stop for a full week. Got so many tests done and even saw a cancer specialist noone could figure me out. So as you can assume periods weren’t the easiest. Ik the period pains are issues in both sides of my family so I got hit like a damn train with that shit. Now I got a problem of not feeling I have enough blood at least before I knew I was losing it for a reason. Anyways I can see how ovarie issues will cause lots of pain and discomfort and mess things up but if you got the issue corrected and have more pain than usual that doesn’t seem right. Also to answer the question periods like this aren’t normal. To call out of work or school simply is considered obnormal. But yeah definitely go see someone about it and get it checked out. But at least you’re not completely alone here with pain issues

  • Your insides are falling out. The Purge is going on inside of your body. No, this is not normal.

Are you overweight? Periods seem to be more painful for overweight women.

Go to the doctor. Also this is a complete laymans point of view, but I think perfectxsilence is onto something. I think if you're too fat then you can have serious period problems.

Try and have a look at roughly how much blood you're losing and then go to the gp or er. (You can explain the amount with how quickly you saturate a tampon or pad if it's easier)
