Religion annoys me. Anyone who has learnt how to think for themselves should be able to come to the conclusion that it is total horse shit, a fairytail devised to control people.
I cant get my head around the fact that in this day and age people still belive this stuff, even worse some let it control their entire lives.

I can't vote. I am semi-religous. I'm Buddhist, and believe in the teachings, but I also back science. Plus, there is no supreme creator/ruler/leader. It's just energy.
1st, Learned not learnt (unless you are outside the US and you may very well be.)

Well I am an educated person but the point is you put yourself out as an educated person in your op. However, you then go on to write like you have a third grade education. And I didn't judge you for your lack of education, I gave a definition of religion.

Also, I'm afraid I can't vote in your poll. I only semi-like Cheetos. I do like certain components that make up the experience of eating Cheetos; I admit to liking how they feel in my mouth, but the flavour is too strong for my tastes. I'm a Cheetos agnostic.

You are getting religion confused with religious extremists. Learn the difference before you decide to insult 95% of the entire freaking world.
I'm multi-theistic. I practice my beliefs within the context of the Mormon church. I do this because it is the closest Western religion can come to accommodate my beliefs and it best compliments my lifestyle as well as enforcement of the ideal of who I want to be.
I grew up in an anti-religious and abusive household. The argument can be made that it is because I was abused that I turned to religion. That's a tiring argument, as the one that I normally hear is that people with a good childhood are more likely to be Christian because they have not had to question their faith ("Why is this happening to me?").
Either way, I chose religion of my own accord. I wasn't brain washed to do anything. I saw something in it that I did not see in atheism or agnosticism or just pure religious apathy. Religion is not my entire life, it is another component of my life. It fits in well with the system of beliefs that I held previously although I am admittedly pretty progressive as far as my social beliefs go, so I'm not about to sit here and tell anyone why all gays are going to burn in hell. I can't decide that. I actually enjoy reading the atheist arguments. My personal feelings aren't going to take a hit because someone doesn't agree with my religion, oh boohoo.
But, like I said. Religion is not who I am, it is another component of who I am, just as my job, marriage, education and past is. I'm a pretty well-rounded individual like that.
Idk.. I was raised as a christian ( is that right? idk.. i am german.. pls tell me :D ) but i kinda lost faith in god over the last years. I still want to belive that there is something up there.. but I have to say no.
well i'm a christian and believe in god but also science. i alos believe in my future and that someday i will start a family of my own. the reason i'm saying this is because everyone has a belief in something and you don't have to be religious to believe in something. plus there is evidents and fact for both science and religion. plus as it says in the bible god gave you free will and the power for you to think for yourself. well i updated the words. just because you hate religion doesn't mean you have to be a dick to those who believe. sometimes religion is the only thing that keeps people from killing themselves. oh and if you believe in something or have trust, faith or hope in something it's pretty much what people do when they look up to god. i know you think i'm doing this because i'm religious myself but the way your post sounds is horrible. my friend is very religious because of her past religion is the only thing keeping her sane and if she was to read what you put it might hurt her. non of my family is religous and i found it all on my own. so does that mean that i'm stupid or in a fairy tale because if so well i'm sorry but not everyone has a perfect life with parents who love them and give them everything they want and yes maybe these religious people need the belief because there lifes are horrible and it's the only thing keeping them going thought the day.
You don't just be religious because your life is a bit of a mess and you need something to believe in to hold on to hope n what not. I have quite the dysfunctional family and I am an atheist. I think what you mean to say is that those who have unstable minds and are very fragile need something to believe in otherwise they will snap. It doesn't take a perfect life for someone to be strong and have the ability to think for themselves. I still see religion as an excuse to not take responsibility for your own actions; it's all gods doing, nothing is your fault, you will be in a better place after death, your life has been planned out by some dude in the sky, etc.. I don't despise religious people if they need it and aren't pressing their beliefs onto other people, but I am offended that you think all atheists have perfect lives and that's the reason for them not needing any beliefs.

Id rarther not live my life under false beliefs. Ive had a tough time myself, it has been temping for me to pray in the past when i went through health problems but i didnt, why? Because im not stupid, i knew it wouldnt help. So yes, religion is for the weak.

the church I go to is more about helping the community then getting you to be religious. they do sometimes say if you are not a Christian well then that's your choice but today we will be talking about God.
yes you should be proud that you don't believe in God but all I was trying to say was don't judge those who do and don't call them fairytale's to those who don't judge you for not believing.
so yes carry on in not believing but don't judge people like me that all I do is tell people that I'm a Christian if they ask or if someone asks my opinion I'd tell them I'm a Christian so that the know why my opinion is involving God.
I'll carry on being a Christian and you can carry on being Atheist. it doesn't bother me, quite a few of my friends are Atheist and I've not had an argument with them about me believing in god.
You know, I honestly don't care if my religion is true or not. It makes me happy. I found that I have had a pretty decent life. I have self respect because of life choices I've made, which, to be honest, I did make because of my religion. When I am having moments of weakness or hardship, it's just comforting to pray, to spill out my heart. It really doesn't matter to me if somebody is listening or not. I'm religious because I would be unhappy if I wasn't.
By the way, I'm not saying that you're unhappy if you're not religious...it's more of a matter of "to each his own".

Just because he doesn't follow the Bible; just because he doesn't call himself Christian, Muslim, Jewish, etc - does not mean he is not religious. He follows his own set of religious beliefs.

Lets just face the fact people are stupid. People dont think for themselves. The vast majority needs to be told what to do or they are lost. Sad to say but most of the poppulation does not have a mind of thier own. They follow what law, religion, telivision, music, celeberties, politicians tell them to do. Think about laws. The 3 major ones are do not rape, kill, steal. Now these are the most universally excepted laws. This is something MOST countries agree on. Now should we have to tell people "Do not steal, kill or rape"?
No, but if we don't people are going to do it. Why, because are fucking stupid. Those of us with enough of a mind to control ourselves need to understand that.
We have about 90 percent following what 10 percent says you need to do. Without law what do we have? Chaos! Well in most countries. Some countries do not fall to chaos when law is gone since they are not that fucking stupid. The rest of the world is pretty much worthless sacks of meat that would probably kill themselves in some stupid way anyhow.
Why do you think they invented a book that told you not to be a a bad person? Since someone wise realized "Well people are pretty stupid I think I will try to help out man kind". Yet, once again people have found a way to fuck this shit up as well. Since people are stupid!
Now before I get asked "What about gays". Think about the time and how old these books are. There was no real medical care, the death-rate was very high so people had many children.
Now gay in that time would be a bad thing. Why? because people needed to reproduce and people of the same gender can not make a baby. So gay in that time would have killed us off. So yes people are stupid.
They are not going to do what they should be doing without someone telling them whats right and wrong. You cant assume everyone is that intelligent since most of them aren't. How in the hell we got to the top of the food chain is a mystery. Might be the fact that most animals think we taste like shit.
Dont underestimate the stupidity of man. It will prevail through any age. It will ruin things for the rest of us. It will make them create stricter laws since people don't know how to behave themselves. You cant assume everyone is going to do the right thing. If their is no law saying not to they wont give a fuck. In an ideal world we would not NEED law. In this world we do.

So, when I say I believe in an almighty being, such as God, it's stupid and impractical. But when scientists say the entire universe exploded out of a speck smaller than an atom, that's not at all unreasonable.
