There's an animated Batman VHS tape from a long time ago that someone I know who worked on it said that this guy was actually written in the script under the name "deadpool using a hologram belt to avoid copyright infringement". The movie makes 1000 times more sense if this is true. What do you think?

It's really not that impossible that writers would pull something like that. It's just so fucking ridiculous and selfish of bruce to truly see himself as a good guy when he has so much money and political power he could save all the guys getting tortured in unspeakable ways underground in China. No, he doesn't give a shit about that and he really believes that his pain is worse and spends his time dressing up in a super hero costume and beating the shit out of petty criminals.
it's almost like someones trying to make bruce look like the bad guy. or at the very least, make him laughably self absorbed and hypocritical. All robins and bat girl are strangely absent without any explanation why. This entire movie is like something out of a nightmare. I think Batman is in hell sometimes, and everybody is mephisto screwing with him and making more and more of a fool out of him and hurting him worse and worse.
I think the part where tim drake is in the hospital and batman comes in with a completely straight face demanding to know about some stupid bullshit about him threatning the mayor is when he realizes bruce isn't even trying to be funny, he REALLY does not give a shit about innocent little infants and children being bred and cloned underground being tortured and filmed(millions of kids).
