Bad look for ukraine

They keep putting out videos of Russian POWs talking about the war and how great Ukraine is and how evil russia is and to me it comes off as cheesy propaganda. Like you have him in captivity and have guns why should I gave any credence to what he says. Then yesterday they posted an interview with a POW that just happened to have two black eyes and he was explaining how he was shooting civilians and how nicely the Ukrainians are to their prisoners ๐Ÿ˜‚

This is what Saddam, Osama, Vietcong, ISIS did to all their POW and it makes Ukraine look worse than if they just didnt do the videos. I dont think people are this stupid and normal ppl understand this is propaganda. The thing is in history its always been the bad guys that did this its not a good look.

    I agree; it's not a good look.

It's not nearly as bad a look as the Russians very obviously deliberately targeting schools, hospitals, a theatre clearly labelled "KIDS", many other civilian structures of no obvious military value and refugee convoys, but it's not good.

I have no idea how the Ukrainian treatment of Russian POWs compares to how the USA treated Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison, but it's not good.

I also agree that that the example you cite of a Russian who admitted on camera that he'd been shooting civilians and said that he was being treated well is highly implausible. Not because his black eyes contradicted that, but because it's much more likely that if he'd actually been caught slaughtering defenceless, random civilians, he would probably have been shot on the spot. (And, as far as I'm concerned and no matter what the Geneva convention says, that would have been a clean kill.)

I've only seen a couple of these videos, and I have no interest in seeing more since, as you say, they're obvious propaganda. The only such video that I have seen which did strike me as highly effective was of some pathetic Russian kid who surrendered early on and was videoed wolfing down his first meal in days and calling his mother on a civilian volunteer's mobile phone to say that he was alive and okay.

Unfortunately that's how it looks. Though theres a slim chance they could limp out of this as a country still. Just got to bleed Russia dry.

Us reports that 7000 russians died in ukraine so far. While putin says only 500 have died... and was 2 weeks ago. I think hes going to have the same exact response from mothers when afganistan invasion didnt go as planned.

Theres a difference between taking a country that it's people dont really understand it's their country and a country who's people are very aware they are a seperate people from the invader. Something putin wont be able to spin no matter how he plays this war out to be.

Hopefully the ruble will cause the fall of the russian "empire" and make other satilites rebel.

Update the total dead russians by russias report is 10k so the ukrainian numbers might be more correct than anticipated.

I seriously believe that Putin would be able to spin the utter destruction of his invading army as a huge triumph, and a majority of the Russian public would believe him.

I just read an article about people in Ukraine calling friends and relatives in Russia and being emphatically told that there's nothing really significant going on in Ukraine, anything that is happening is just Ukrainian fascists bombing the shit out of the country, the Russians are only there to save the country, and it's all America's fault in any case.

There are clearly a lot of Russians - particularly those of the internet generation - who don't believe the utter BS that's on state-controlled Russian TV, but a huge portion of the population seems to have been very effectively brainwashed to accept that crap as the gospel truth.

One of the darkly amusing bits of the article was about a Russian who lives in the UK calling her Ukrainian father who lives in western Siberia and asking him how his brother, who still lives in a city southwest of Kyiv, was doing. Her father assured her that her uncle was just fine โ€“ although the last time he called him it was difficult to hear him because of the air raid sirens.

โ€œI said to him, โ€˜How can everything be fine if there are air raid sirens? How is that OK?โ€™โ€

I feel that some of that may be western propaganda as well. Theres a ton of russians on the politics discord I go on and none of them are clueless about the civilian attacks but maybe thats because theyre more into politics than average russians. I dont know how much your average russian follows those things. But hearing from them they know whats going on pretty well and tend to say the average russian does understand.

It seems half in half that half support the war and half dont. I talked to one today who said zelenskys election was rigged and hes a western puppet who replaced their russian puppet and hes a jew that wants to spread LGBT propaganda. He sent me a real video of Zelensky in spandex and highheels dancing like a girl ๐Ÿคฎ ๐Ÿ˜‚

I think putin forgot that the internet exist.

Sure the soviets were willing to live through poverty. But the average 2022 citizen that never knew hunger? I think being thrown in prison is a lesser issue in that instance.

After Putin's announcement yesterday of "separating true patriots from scum" and undergoing a "self-cleansing" of society to purge the bastards & traitors" I'm beginning to think he's not talking about prison but rather extermination.
