i have always washed my hands and taken back when I see people use the bathroom and dont, come on think about it, shit has germs and so does piss, so you dont wash and give that to everyone else, how sick!
I wash my hands often: in addition to every time Ive been on the toilet, I wash them every time I notice they smell, which is several times daily. But when my hands are too dry I avoid washing on the top of my hands and only wash fingers and palms until it has healed a bit. And I dont use hand sanitizer on the top of my hands because that hurts
It's funny, but I never really thought about this until I read your OP.
I've always washed my hands after getting them dirty from some outside or car work, I have a habit of washing them after petting our dogs or handling the cat and dog food bowls, and I've always done it before preparing food and after brushing my teeth (I'm a disgustingly sloppy brusher), but apart from that, I've been pretty casual about hand-hygiene for many years. I also have to admit that, unless the contamination on my hands is greasy, I hardly ever use any sort of soap, so my "washing" is really more of a rinsing thing.
Covid hasn't changed that, mainly because the evidence from early on was that fomites weren't really a huge factor in catching it (much, much less significant than inhaled droplets). The latest research I've seen confirmed this, with strong evidence that the virus becomes unviable in a matter of minutes when it's on a dry surface.
Honestly my hand washing routine didnt change. Though I was and still am a big sanitizer dispenser user. Like the back of my brain saw a free dispenser for a product I would pay money for. Takes less time than washing my hands and is arguably more effective than the half ass handwashing I already do.
You're gonna get covid anyway might as well live your life. Before its said and done I think everyone is gonna get it even the vaccinated. Its here to stay. They wont just talk about flu season anymore it'll be covid season too.
I hate washing my hands so I relate, but now I wash my hands first thing I do when i've get home after having been outside and I carry hand disinfection with me. Hand disinfection is something i've come to love during the pandemic because sure it makes your hands sticky but it dries immadiately and some brands are moisturizing as well.
